I’m supposed to be working on a mini-project assigned to me by my rotation supervisor and I am just not in the mood. Nor do I particularly care about this project. She’s a good at delegating, I’ll give her that.
I kind of feel like I’ve been doing this rotation for more than 4 days. So much information has been crammed in these few days! I feel like I’m learning so much but am also somewhat overwhelmed. Everyone I work with is super nice and very helpful. It’s exhausting (more because I have to be around so many people I’m not comfortable around yet all day) and stressful, but really, really awesome. I mean, I tube fed a tiny owl today. How awesome is that?
Today, rotation mate and I finished our dissection/anatomy exercise. It didn’t seem to take quite as lot as the first half, which was nice. I am so slow at dissection and we ended up using the leg I was working on because his was damaged. It had tons of bruising and was probably the reason why the owl died/was euthanized. Some people, when dissecting, like to just dive in and make cuts, kind of working more from instinct. Rotation mate seems like that. I, on the other hand, really like to look at things and know what I’m cutting into. I’m definitely more tentative. It’s especially time consuming with muscles, which we were working on today, because there is so much fascia connecting them all and it’s hard to separate the muscles from one another without damaging them or cutting into them. Anyway, we got it done and labeled everything and Dr. D seemed pleased with our work.
We were working on the leg, so it was interesting to pull on muscles and have them open or close the talons. Extensors and flexors. It really helps me understand how the limb works. And it’s kind of freaky to watch the toes open and close.
Oh! So we’re going to that taping of Wits tomorrow! So excited! And the Wits episode we went to last week went online, so you can find it here if you’re interested at all: http://www.witsradio.org/episodes/gaiman-diamond/
I haven’t listened to the completed show yet, so I don’t know what they cut out. I hope that the Murder Cat segment made it, though. If you listen, let me know what you think. I hope you find it amusing :)
Must go be functional. Blehhhhh.
