Buyer's Remorse in Life in General

I definitely overspent on this A/C unit.

I could have easily spent like $8,000 less on something much simpler and it would have been totally fine. I could have spent EVEN less than that if I had decided to just stick with gas heating and not convert to electric. Seriously, I think I could have done this for $10,000 minimum.

I don’t think it’s a waste of money necessarily, there are real benefits to this setup, and it will likely last 5-10 years longer than a standard system (even the warranty is 2 years longer than most units). But this system is legitimately a “rich people” set up.

I apologized to my MIL about this since she paid for it. I told her “I feel bad because if this were my money, I would have WANTED this system but I doubt I would have ever spent it unless I was rich”.

She replied with “Well we are rich”.

And I’m like “YOU are rich, I am NOT”. haha.

Anyways so as nice as she was about it, I still feel pretty bad. Every time in the past she has offered to help us with something I’ve always done my best to find the “good enough” option to minimize the cost. This was the first time I took advantage of her money and I vowed to never do that again.

For example we need a new water heater and we got a quote for $3,500-$4000. Which was totally ridiculous so I’m exploring options to do it myself. I think I could do it for like $1400.
