Long Day, Much Sleepy in Ponderings of the Universe

Today was a crazy, 10-hour day at the Raptor Center. So much busy! There were morning exams during which I gavage fed a Northern Saw Whet Owl. They look like this:

Awww so tiny and adorable! And just as grumpy as full-sized owls. And ferocious little killers :P I also administered eye drops to another one. I love them. So much precious. And I sort of learned to restrain them, though one escaped on me, but that’s partially because I had leather gloves on that were too big so I couldn’t feel what I was doing.

Rotation mate and I watched one of the interns, Dr. I, do surgery. It was orthopedic surgery so it squicked me out. It went so perfectly but then something bad happened and our patient died during recovery. Dr. I then decided to have rotation mate and I do a necropsy on it. Well, I took notes and rotation mate did the necropsy since he’s already done his necropsy rotation. I imagine I’ll have to do one at some point on this rotation, though. Bleh. We found what we believed to be cause of death (I’m being purposely vague because patient confidentiality and whatnot) and I think we were supposed to do a writeup on it but then everyone got distracted by a new patient admission and everyone forgot. I remembered when I got home but didn’t have a format to go by, so I found something online and filled that in. It isn’t ideal but it at least looks like I put forth some initiative or some such nonsense.

I have some reading yet to do for tomorrow. We’re doing an anatomy/dissection exercise so I guess I should familiarize myself with where stuff is. I just want to go to bed because it’s officially winter with all this buggering snow so it’s my inclination to hibernate.
