Flickering Ember in Letters to Sima

Dearest Sima,

I find myself walking through a dense forest of shadows. I’m searching for something just out of sight. A glimpse now and again. A fleeting peripheral movement. It feels like I’ve been wandering through this forest for a lifetime. Maybe I have. Perhaps I’ll continue to stumble through it in the next lifetime.

I’m exhausted.

A flickering ember refusing to die.

My intention to write you a letter has lingered in the air above my head for weeks. Though this one is short, it helps to break down the dam of words so I can begin.

Always, Greta
