We decided we need a larger tv for the living room and we were going to get it for Christmas. I told John we could go up to 50 inches if he could find one for a suitable price. Last night he was online and he happened to see a ‘deal of a lifetime’, and he ordered us a 55” tv from Dell… on one hand, I was a bit POed - it was bigger than we wanted and I hope it’s not going to be a monstrosity! But on the other, he got an email from Dell this morning - the tv was only on sale for ten minutes because somebody made an oops (so they say) and it wasn’t supposed to be nearly that cheap. ‘Regular’ price was a hair under $1000, and the sale price? $500 including tax and shipping… but they say they will honour the sale, so I guess we have a new tv.
And I guess it was meant to be. We’ve had a big cabinet-style entertainment center for years, and it kept us from buying a larger tv because our 32 inch just barely fits into the rectangle, and the frame gets in the way of watching the tv from my chair… but getting rid of it was more hassle than it was worth while we lived in an upstairs apartment. A new entertainment unit was on my wish list since we moved, and last week one of our neighbours dragged an old dresser out to the curb and I snagged it. We were going to put it in the bedroom but it didn’t fit, so I decided to put it in the living room and use it as an entertainment unit instead… our DVD collection just fits into the drawers, and the new tv will fill every inch of space on top of it! lol We’re going to buy a wall-mount though, you can’t have a tv that size free-standing when you have animals or children wandering around… the last thing we want to do would be to come home one day and find it upside down on the floor with a squashed cat underneath!

That's a great deal. Ours is on a bracketed entertainment center, so it hangs, but on the arms of the furniture piece itself. I was afraid our walls wouldn't handle the weight, nor would I be able to help lift it. I'm glad things fell into place for you on this.
