When I heard there was a new Kindle coming out I really wanted it - until I saw the price… $200 for a black and white tablet that only does books?! I don’t care if it’s got the world’s sharpest display and you can read it from 50 paces away at midnight! If it was only $150 (thirty bucks more than the Paperwhite), I’d tell John I wanted it for Christmas, but the price is outrageous. I’ll put up with my scratched screen and dented display for another year or so - they were very annoying when they happened because it was a fairly new device when John dropped it, but they’ve been there so long now that I’ve mentally tuned the marks out and I hardly ever notice them any more. I love my kindle - I play little puzzle games on the kindle fire, and I read on my paperwhite all the time. Every time I leave the house, it goes with me in my purse (I leave the Fire by my bed at home unless we’re going away for a few days and I think I might want to use it…) But there’s only so much money to go around and upgrading it is a complete luxury that’s just not going to happen at that price point. Amazon’s priced themselves out of my personal market… :(
Since they replaced our air conditioner last month, it works MUCH better… I’ve gone back to controlling the temperature during the day - if I go out, the thermostat goes up to 85, and I turn it down when we get home, and it doesn’t take long to get it back down to 82 again. Still squabbling with John over the night time temperature - he wants it down at 78, which actually makes the bedroom a chilly 75 by morning so that I have to burrow under the covers to sleep, and I think it’s just fine if we leave it at 80. Either way, we’re still saving electricity galore. The guy said there was a hole in the ductwork above the bedroom so we were attempting to cool the ceiling space - no wonder the darned a/c couldn’t manage, and our bill was so shockingly high over the summer! We kept telling the landlord that the bedroom was a good five degrees hotter than the living room, and he’d just stick his head in the front day and say ‘wow, it’s cold in here!’ without going any further. Oh well, it’s fixed now. Now I can go and lay down whenever I need to without baking myself. Last month I only ran the dishwasher once a week instead of three times, but our sinks are so inefficient that I had to keep running the water almost continuously and I only saved $3 on the water bill. I’m not going to bother with that attempted saving any more, it’s not worth the physical energy cost for me to stand there and do dishes by hand. I’ve got much better things to do with my hands! I’ll run the dishwasher twice a week and hand-wash the pots and pans, but all the crockery and cutlery go into the machine.
Waiting for my first ‘mail order’ asthma meds to get here. They took our information months ago, and last week they called to say that they had my prescription organised and the meds would be here in five days… they’d better hurry. I’ve been on the nebuliser a few times this week (I think it’s allergies…) and I’m down to the last five ampules. I was hoping the new box would get here before I ran out but it doesn’t look likely at this point. If they take too long I’ll have to go to Walgreens and find out how much it costs to buy a single box of the meds to tide me over… I go weeks at a time without needing to nebulise at all, but then it’s every day for a week or two, and that runs through the meds.
