Hell no, I don't want to go in One day at a time

All too soon it was 6.00am Friday and time to make a final sweep of the apartment (for left behind stuff), we had paid a cleaning bond for someone to come and actually sweep. One last Carrie moment, when I opened the door and there was a big black towncar waiting to take us to the airport. Unfortunately Big wasn’t sitting in the backseat doing that eyebrow thing.
Back to JFK and onto our Virgin America flight to Vegas.
Some final thoughts about New York:. Wow, just wow. My friends at home (who are reasonably tolerant of my tripping about reports) always ask what was your top experience?. This one I could really only narrow to maybe a top ten. (how fitting given Letterman films there). There were also a few wow moments I haven’t mentioned – coming out of Madison Square Gardens to see the Empire State Building lit up pink (I assume for breast cancer awareness). The barber shop quartet who got on our train and sang and danced their way up and down the carriage, before getting off at the next stop. The two women who argued outside our apartment one night (and bear in mind we were on the fourth floor), “Oh no you deed’nt” (I kid you not). The group of about 3 people who had to translate to the Indian shopkeeper at the local convenience store when Susan asked for toothpaste. The lady who asked us for money when we stopped at a hotdog seller to buy water. “I’m sorry no” I said. “I’m not black I’m Hispanic, you won’t give me any money because you think I’m black. I’m not black, I’m Hispanic” (continue yelling, but don’t move from your position of reclining on a brick wall in the sunshine until we are at the end of the next block).
And finally three sounds I hope I will carry in my head for ever. The guy at Yankee Stadium selling “crack-er-jacks” in a wonderful sing song voice. Billy Joel playing the opening to Pianoman on his harmonica and finally the hysterical (might just pee myself), uncontrollable laughter of my two friends and I enjoying every second of every day.
Thank you New York, you’ve been great (as Billy would say).
