I use homemade soaps in Confessions

I guess there are several parts to this confession: I use homemade soap, homemade shampoo (commonly called “no-poo”), and homemade laundry detergent. I really don’t use any type of store-bought cleaners in general. As a corollary to this confession, I’ll add that I don’t use deodorant.

The first step for me in this one was reading that hair was better off with it’s natural oils (just like skin) and shouldn’t be washed nearly as often as most people do. I cut back washing my hair to about once every two weeks. It was almost greasy at first and I didn’t like it, but very quickly it was as if my hair adjusted to the new schedule and seemed to change. Now my hair seems normal and healthy all the time, and it actually feels its worst right after I’ve washed it.

This experience led me to try out washing my hair with a homemade concoction instead of the chemicals found in shampoos. I immediately loved it.

After that success, replacing other soaps with homemade versions seems like the logical progression.

Deodorant seemed like the last remaining store-bought thing I was putting on my body on a regular basis and I was looking into ways to replace it when I started experimenting with not wearing it at all.

I admit I would probably smell better if I wore it, but I started really accepting the philosophy that there is nothing wrong with human beings smelling like human beings. Why do we need to smell like fragrances all the time? I don’t have a foul and repulsive body odor, but I smell like me. And I appreciate that.
