Several years ago I had a job that required me to carry with me an assortment of items at all times. I did what most other guys that I worked with did: I had a small hand bag that I took with me everywhere. It was just the easiest way to deal with it. I never thought of it as a purse, it was just a necessity of my job.
As time passed, I started carrying more and more things in my bag, simple out of convenience, like my wallet and my cell phone. I saw no reason to keep things stuffed in my pockets when I had a perfectly good bag to put them in.
When I quit that job, it had really become a habit to have all my daily necessities in a bag, and I continued to carry around a bag with me everywhere I went. After a while, my bag got old and worn out and it was time to get a new one. I went shopping with a female friend and we browsed through the sporting goods section and luggage areas trying to find something I liked, but nothing really looked just right.
After an awkward moment, my friend finally just suggested that we look in the purse department. I was surprised and embarrassed at first, but then it slowly dawned on me that a purse was exactly what I needed.
