Cleaning like a (very tired) machine in Another Open Diary refugee

You know those days when you get up to clean ONE thing.. .and the more you do, the more you look around and see stuff to do, so you end up cleaning until you can’t move another muscle? That was today… the bathtubs been draining really badly again and John asked me to put the cleaner stuff down it, so I did. But doing that, I really noticed how filthy the tub had gotten (scrubbing bathtubs is not a priority for me…) and the tub had been full of the backed-up cleaning water so I had to sterilise it anyway… so I went and got the Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner and the cleaning pole and cleaned the tub properly, and then since I had them in my hand I went and cleaned the other tub. I bought a new shower curtain liner a few weeks ago, so I took care of getting that put up, and I took the towels away to wash and fetched clean ones. (no they’re not washed yet… last time I did them I draped them on the clothes horse in the backyard to try to kill the ickies but it didn’t work - they still smell horribly fusty once they’re wet so I’m going to have to bleach them, which means waiting until I’ve got enough ‘bleachworthy’ stuff for a load.)

I rested for awhile, and then I got out the vacuum cleaner to do the floors… I cleaned the inside floors and then I noticed that the porch was well overdue for a clean, so I took the vacuum out there (yes, I vacuum the porch - with an enclosed screen on it you can’t really sweep the dirt outside, so vacuuming is by far the most efficient way to clean it. I only do it every couple of months…) and while I was out there I vacuumed the laundry. Then I took the vacuum back to the living room and I decided that I’d give the front door mat the same treatment so I cleaned THAT… and cleaning it I noticed that our front door has got FILTHY around the handles because I doubt it has EVER been cleaned… so I grabbed the window cleaner and a jug of water and away I went. Alas, our front door has a very poor weather strip, so all the rinsing water went straight down the front of the door and into the living room! I had to get the mop to clean up the water, and cleaning it up effectively mopped about four feet of living room floor, which really showed up how how dirty the rest of it was… so I mopped until I couldn’t move my shoulder any more and did the entire living room floor (only I didn’t move the furniture). Called John to ask about dinner (meaning, please could he bring something home) and I was so tired he thought I was snapping at him and we nearly had a fight… but the upshot was I felt guilty and cooked him some buffalo chicken for dinner instead of spending money on takeout… I’ve still got the other half of the house to scrub - if I can that that done, THEN I’ll deserve to go out to eat… I just hope I can even lift my arms tomorrow!

PS. I bought a reusable floor cleaner thingy to put on the swiffer because I hate throwing money away and the disposable ones are nearly a buck each now… it was eight bucks for one reusable cleaning pad, but it works GREAT… better than the disposable ones because you can wet the whole thing down before you start mopping, and rinse it out as necessary. It seemed to do a better job of getting the grot off the floor too, so I didn’t need to use as much swiffer spray. Now we just need another one so we can have one in the wash and one on the swiffer…
