I’ve been sorting through the fabric scraps that I picked up from the Free Table at our Guild meeting yesterday. <great sigh=”” here=”“> I realize I have a problem. I just don’t know if there’s a cure for it. So, I went to the Internet for information on how to deal with this addiction. Well, I discovered in 0.66 seconds that there were 13,999,999 other fabric addicts like myself out there. “I am not alone…”

What is the attraction of scraps? How is it some people can blithely toss them over their shoulders (ala Eleanor Burns style) and not think a thing about it. While others, like myself, save every little bit — because if you can sew it to another little bit, you’ll have SOMETHING. LOL But seriously, I enjoy looking at the various fabrics, the colors and the patterns and try to imagine it in a quilt or placemat or just a cover for a homemade jar of jam.

I’m glad I’m not alone, and I think my dear deceased step-mother-in-law was a lover of scraps too, because I inherited a lot of her bits and pieces. Now I think I’ll go do a bit of sewing on my latest Comfort Quilt top. When I get it finished, I’ll take the leftover scraps (and they will be scraps) and add them to my stash. I love fabric scraps, and if there’s that many of us out there, I guess it’s not that bad of an addiction to have.

I too have a hard time turning loose of scraps, but I don't go picking up others' scraps...

I do when they're on the freebie table at the end of a Guild meeting. I sort through, pick what I want and take the remaining pieces to the local thrift shop, who love that I bring them stuff! I also pass along quilting magazines and other bits that they price and sell. It's all good...
