I have been diagnosed with Graves Disease. My doctor and the specialist both seemed quite panicked about the whole thing, but I don’t really understand why. Nothing I read about it indicates that I’m about to drop dead or anything. I’m off for a scan next Friday, then starting some fairly heavy medication the day after that, and easing the medication down the track. Luckily, I have been given plenty of scripts and authorisation to have them all dispensed at once, so I can take a good supply to the US with me. I also have a billion copies of everything coming by post, so I can give it to my new doctor in time.

I’m not worried, although that might change once I start on the medication. I just hope there’s no awful side effects. I have been lucky to have a life where minimal medication is required (only contraception and painkillers) and I don’t really want to change that.

Last night I dusted off mother’s Wii and balance board thingy. I had a great time working through the stretches and silly games on that, and will definitely be playing again. I realised afterwards that I had a huge grin on my face, so it must have been good for me!

My police clearance certificate arrived today - clear as expected. Still, it was nice to receive the reassurance, and to have the certificate with plenty of time before my interview. Nothing from M, but I really do not expect to see his letter before the interview date. Because I am one day ahead of him, time is just against me. Oh, well.

I had a small set back with my fingernails, and chewed the ends off a couple. I am back to working on letting them grow, and I like the way they are starting to look.

I was diagnosed with Graves disease when I was 13, had my thyroid removed when I was 14. I was the most severe young case my Dr had seen. Ive been on synthroid/ levothyroxine ever since.
Good luck to you.

Yikes! That's my worst nightmare, but luckily not even being considered at this stage.

I was googling this - well I hope it works out - with treatment etc. I was chatting to Rob about this - his hyper thyroidism isnt graves disease he just has to manage it - with lots of healthy eating and watch his cholesterol levels. So hopefully you might not be on medication for very long - and you might improve?

hope the meds work well and you can keep this under control :(

Thanks. I am confident that I will. Just hoping the meds don't cost too much - that's my biggest worry.
