It’s that time of year - so it’s the end of year survey!
What did you do in 2023 that you’d never done before?
Played Adventure Golf. Not exactly the answer people might be expecting, but I went to an adventure gold course near home with a few friends and got hooked. I’ve played on 8 courses this year now!
Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I tend not to bother with them as if I want to make a change in my life I should just do it. I prefer to make a bucket list, and currently on it is to start wedding planning and get myself a job! Also prep for Noelle starting school in 2024.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
No
Did anyone close to you die?
No
What countries did you visit?
England. And a brief foray across the Welsh border on a day out.
What would you like to have in 2024 that you lacked in 2023?
A bit more financial clout.
What date from 2023 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I can’t think of anything specific.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Being Maizee!
What was your biggest failure?
Not getting a job.
Did you suffer illness or injury?
At the start of the year I had what I now believe was Covid. I felt really shivery for a few days, had a sore throat and was coughing for about three weeks. Dad was coughing and spluttering, mum had a temperature, Noelle was lethargic, Summer escaped and Tom didn’t have as much as a sniffle.
What was the best thing you bought?
Although it’s not on until 2025, tickets to see the War of the Worlds stage show tour.
Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Tom being an absolute saint while most of us struggled through our suspected Covid.
Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
A few, mostly politicians.
Where did most of your money go?
Housekeeping for my parents, and for Noelle and Summer.
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
A first family holiday with just me, Tom and the girls.
What song will always remind you of 2023?
I can’t think of one.
Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier
ii. thinner or fatter? About the same
iii. richer or poorer? Similar, slightly richer as we are saving money for a wedding/possible place of our own.
What do you wish you’d done more of?
Being positive.
What do you wish you’d done less of?.
Worrying about money.
How will you be spending Christmas?
At home. Now that Summer is 2 and half she gets the concept of what Christmas is now, so it was the first year it felt like we were all involved.
Did you fall in love in 2023?
I’m always falling back in love with Tom and my daughters.
How many one-night stands?
None. I’ve only slept with Tom in the last 5 years now.
What was your favourite TV program?
Richard Osman’s House of Games.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
No.
What was the best book you read?
The Richard Coles murder whodunnits.
What was your greatest musical discovery?
The power of my ipod when our neighbour practices his guitar. He plays Oasis really well but his singing is flatter than a drink of coca-cola that’s been open for a week.
What did you want and get?
Time with my family.
What did you want and not get?
A job.
What was your favourite film of this year?
I haven’t seen any new films this year.
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 26. I spent most of it feeling bleah and recovering from the covid-type thing that got us.
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Getting a job.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2023?
Maizee.
What kept you sane?
Tom and the girls.
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
None. I have Tom!
What political issue stirred you the most?
Getting honked off with the mud-slinging over the Covid thing. It’s all well and good opposition parties saying “We would have done this/that sooner”, but where were they at the time… truth is no-one knew what we were up against and we all had to respond to the science when it became available.
Who did you miss?
Strangely I felt myself missing Amy who I flat-shared with in my last year of uni.
Who was the best new person you met?
No idea really.

Your true friends are there for you no matter what.
