Today was a two-tramadol day… BUT - I got an awful lot done! (this is probably a bit boring, but it’s nice to have something positive to write instead of whining about how much I hurt… yes I hurt, but there’s a reason, which was all the work I did!)
I got up and made scrambled eggs for breakfast and put on a load of laundry, then I used the pickup stick to collect all the stray cat toys and bits and pieces off the floors in preparation for vacuuming, and washed the pile of dishes that’s somehow accumulated in the two days since I last ran the dishwasher. John says our last water bill was too high, so I did them by hand to try to save a bit of $$. That completely wiped me out and the work was barely begun, so I took a tramadol and lay down for an hour… then I grabbed the vacuum cleaner because I figured that if I didn’t vacuum BEFORE we had lunch I wouldn’t get it done at all… I’ve been feeling really snuffly and allergy-ridden and it’s ages since I did a deep-clean, so I moved all the furniture and vacuumed the cat tree etc. instead of just doing a quick once-over of the walkways. Rearranged the corner of the living room a little so that my walker fits into it out of the way, and loaded some stuff to donate into the back of the car… That took me to 2 o’clock, and I heated up the pulled pork that I’d cooked overnight (thank you crockpot! I love that I can throw meat on before I go to bed and have it cooked when I get up in the morning, so we can eat it at lunchtime without standing over the stove…) and boiled some green beans until they were soft so John would be able to eat them more easily…
After lunch I went on the computer for a bit and we headed out to the thrift store at three pm to hand off the donation boxes and FINALLY get them out of the house (some of that stuff’s been sitting in the corner of the living room since we moved in). I had a quick shop in the store hoping to score another cat basket (the girls totally ignored the last one for a full month, but now somebody sleeps in it every night!)… none available alas, but I found a cute tshirt, and (hooray) they had a dark green king-sized sheet and fitted sheet for only $3.50. Now I can finally put a cover back on John’s poor beat-up chair so that nobody can see the holes the cats ripped in the upholstery - a king-sized sheet is large enough to cover the whole chair and easy to wash when it gets dirty… If the other sheet fits onto my recliner we’ll actually have ‘matching’ chairs, but if not never mind… one of these centuries I’ll buy a proper stretchy recliner cover - it’s lovely cream leather, and the little darlings have clawed it up quite a bit even though we yell at them every time we see them start to scratch the furniture. :( We adore our cats, but they’re born redecorators…
Okay, where was I? Thrift store… John had a headache and I pointed out that he finished his iced tea yesterday and he hasn’t had any caffeine since, so we stopped at Winn-Dixie to get some more. Plus he wanted hamburgers for dinner which means buying ground beef. Their ground was on sale for $3.50 a pound. Not what I’d call a great special, but ground beef is darned expensive! Walked around the store and bought a few more things we needed, and I FINALLY remembered to get baking parchment so I can make myself some cookies… the walking was good for me, but I had to stand in line at the checkouts for at least 15 minutes so my back was killing me before I got back to the car. Came home, put the groceries away, lay on the new icecpack for another hour and took another tramadol, then made dinner for John. I’m not a big burger fan, so I cheated and had dessert instead - Breyers sugar-free icecream (on sale for three bucks) and jello. Yum! Guess I’ll always be a kid at heart, because I have a soft spot for icecream and jelly…
John gets paid tonight, so first thing tomorrow we have to go collect our rent check from the bank and pick up my blood pressure meds from Walgreens… and then I have the fun of mopping the floors that I just vacuumed so nicely. Boy do they need it! We also need to go back to Winn-Dixie - while I was looking for the ground beef I saw they have skinless boneless chicken breasts for $2 a pound again. Last time it was that cheap I bought ten pounds! We still have three pounds or so left in the freezer from our last BJs run (their chicken was just under three bucks a pound) but there’s always room for more if it’s cheap enough… the chest freezer is packed full of vegetables, but there’s still some room in the little upright. I’m sure I can make room for another ten pounds, and that should keep us in chicken all month!
And all I can say is thank goodness for modern medicine (and especially tramadol)… without it, I would have been completely and utterly done for the day after I washed the dishes, and the work would NEVER get done!
