Journaling prompt:

How can I let go? What do I need to surrender? How can I look at things from a different perspective?

Your Tree Spark:

Practice simple breathing today, like the yogini in the Tree card. Set aside 5 to 10 minutes to breathe and relax. Inhale slowly and mindfully, to a count of four, then exhale to a count of four. Do this mindful breathing through the nose (as our yoga teachers always remind us).

As you practice, slow down and allow the inhalations and exhalations to lengthen. After it’s easy to inhale and exhale to a count of four, try a count of six to eight. You can add another layer of mindfulness by saying to yourself: “Now I am breathing in. Now I am breathing out.”

Notice the sensation of breathing like this. What does it feel like in your body? Can you feel yourself slowing down and allowing tension to slip away?

When you’re done, place your hands over your heart in the Namaste position, as you see in the card. Express gratitude to All-That-Is for your practice, and the time you took to stay present in this moment and to nourish yourself.

I’ve started practicing “active letting go”, which works like this: I’ve started being more aware of my emotions, and knowing when I’m getting too weighed down with anger/sadness/frustration, etc. When I feel myself getting too close to the “danger zone”, I actively breathe and relax my body. Once I’ve got all the spiritual negative juju out of my system, I go into my sacred space and meditate. I talk to the God and/or Goddess, depending on the situation. I’ve found I’m a lot less stressed once I started refusing to let my negative emotions take over my life.

It allows me to look at the bigger picture in a situation, get a different perspective on things. I can take the time to decide whether the issue is worth getting worked up about or if I should just let it go…
