Through 86 years of perpetual motion
If he likes you he’ll smile then he’ll say
“Jimmy, some of it’s magic, some of it’s tragic
But I had a good life all the way”
-He Went to Paris, Jimmy Buffett

Well, Jimmy Buffett – the patron Saint of Naval Aviation (along with Saint Michael) passed away Friday. He was only 76. The – both lamestream and social seemed incensed that no cause of death was given. My initial reaction was “Maybe because it is none of your fucking business.”

Sunday it came out: Merkle cell carcinoma. A rare and aggressive form of skin cancer.

Considering my little cancer sojourn starting month ago finally came to an end on Thursday – my pathology came back – clear margins and no sign of metastasis (but my armpit still aches where they removed the lymph node.)

Hearing of Jimmy’s demise rattled me a bit. I could be dealing with something much, much worse.

Waiting to be scheduled for a full body melanoma PET scan, and I get to go see a medical oncologist in a couple of weeks. Apparently, I am a candidate for cutting edge immunotherapy – which supercharges my immune system to aggressively seek and destroy cancer cells.

So I’ll be super immuno-man if I am entered into the program. The protocol is a year long (“if you can tolerate it” – which makes me think there may be some uncomfortable side effects.)

I closed on my condo on Tuesday. It was all anticlimactic after a month of delays. Just me, the title company rep, and the real estate agent. I signed a stack of paperwork – which I am still waiting to receive my copy of – you know so I can put it a folder and never look at again?

Friday I switched all the utility accounts into my name. Turns out the CMP meter is a smart meter – and I can watch my electricity usage in 15-minute chunks. I foresee a couple of months of obsessively turning shit off and unplugging to find where all the juice is going. I’m going to Lowes later and might preemptively invest is a bunch of small power strips.

Being Labor day weekend the state of Maine is 33% more populated than it is the rest of the year. I wanted to go to the beach yesterday – but the gate closed at 10am yesterday and was still closed at 4pm. Might try again today.

Okay tourists (especially Massholes) pack up your shit and go home. September is for Mainers. I notice I don’t see your speeding, never using turn signal asses up here in February.

Off to Agren’s. Finally time to replace the pos fridge. Agren’s is running commercials saying if you bring in a price for an appliance from another store – they will undercut the sale price by 250 bucks.

I’m up for the challenge. Plus I hear they have really good delivery and pickup.

I am sad about Jimmy . Glad you are keeping close track of any skin cancer. His was a rare and aggressive type.
