Journaling prompt:
How can I move forward with confidence? Am I making progress on my journey? What does success mean to me? What will come of testing myself?
Your Canoe Spark:
Get out on the water. Rent a rowboat on a lake in a park, or borrow a kayak or canoe. Walk to the end of a very long ocean pier. Or get into a bathtub or hot tub. How does it feel to be surrounded by, and supported by, the element of water? How does water soothe your soul? Try testing your skill and strength through rowing or paddling.
Willow and I spent this entire weekend absorbing the energies of the ocean, with the hubbies and baby in tow. We started out at my family’s annual clam-boil, stuffing our faces with the bounty of the sea (and the free booze…) It was so great to see that side of my family, and everyone loved Jack. It was strange not seeing Grandma Ann there. This is the first clam-boil since she passed…Grandpa Ted seems like he’s doing okay. He looks smaller somehow. It’s hard to describe. It’s as if, without Ann, he’s deflated, just a little. I suppose after being married to someone for such a long time, and they become such a big part of you, that once they’re gone, you’re somehow less than you were before you met them. 1 + 1 = 2, but 2 - 1 = 0....(I promised myself I wouldn’t get depressing in this entry) Anyway....
After a few hours there, we headed up to Wompatuck State Park where we would be camping for the evening. The campground was great! The campsites were on the smaller side, but I honestly preferred that; made everything feel that much more cozy. We had the most amazing supper: shish kebabs with steak, peppers and squash from the garden, corn on the cob and bread and buttaaah. If there was a theme for our dining experience on this trip, it would be “butter”. Haha. We snuggled around the fire while the baby man slept, drinks were had, snacks were snacked upon and herbage was smoked. The campers next to us were college kids; thankfully they were relatively quiet, but they could not handle their alcohol. Two of them ended up puking in the woods. Totally did not laugh at them. O.o Park rangers showed up to bust some people who were camping illegally in the woods below our campsite, so we got comped for our stay since they had to “intrude on us” to kick them out. Free stuff? No problem!
Breakfast was out of this world. Pancakes cooked in so much butter, sausage links, bacon cooked in sausage fat, cinnamon buns cooked in orange peels....OhMyInnerFatKid.
From there we were off to Salem! Got lunch with Rick, Jackson had his first professional tarot reading, I got a book (Moon Magick by Conway) that I’ve been lusting after for a while. The weather was absolutely gorgeous all day, and it stayed that way as we headed to the beach. The very first thing we did when we got there was a rite for a dear friend and fellow daughter of the Goddess. We filled a jar with beach sand, tokens we associated with her, witch hazel to heal a broken heart, a blue butterfly and a card from my Herbal Tarot deck: the Six of Swords. Recovery after trauma and struggles. We then sent up a prayer to the Goddess and then, wading out into the water, released the jar into the ocean, where it was taken out to sea.
Marina once said, the ocean is the only part of nature that rocks you, like a mother rocks a child. It is so true. It feels so good to be surrounded by all that love and serenity. I unfortunately didn’t get to spend as much time in the water as Willow, her husband almost drowned my infant son so....just kidding! But Jack ended up face planting in the shallows and freaked himself out a little bit, and he just wanted Mommy, so I had to cut my meditation short. But that’s okay, me and the baby man walked around the beach collecting stones (which he kept trying to put in his mouth) and beach glass. Once it was nap time for the baby man, all four of us began hunting like crazy for beach glass. We found a good amount! Willow and I are planning to make a little something for a friend. I will searching for some inspiration later today, but I have three colors of glass set aside: brown, light blue and white. Earth, sea and sky. I even found a turquoise piece, a yellow piece and a bunch of pink. I keep the beach glass I find in my chalice on my altar, in the Western corner, to represent water.
We then had an absolutely AMAZING dinner at Beer Works in downtown Salem and then hit the road. And hit a butt load of traffic. Stupid construction. Added about an hour onto to our drive. So I watched “The Craft”. Lol.
Love and light, witchy bitches!
