Saturday
I was up this gorgeous coastal Maine summer day before 6am.
I had an appointment to get my annual extortion inspection sticker renewed at 8am.
Darling Ford is less than a quarter mile from work, and since I missed Monday I decided to walk over.
I don’t know if I accomplished anything in an hour other than giving myself a headache.
I have several excel files that I use to do ad hoc analysis on a myriad charging strings. Resident database guy told me a while ago that Access would be a better plan. Initially thought it was a one time project, then Friday I was told this was my booger to pick.
While both Microsoft programs, excel and access have different, yet similar syntax. So all this concatenation/deconcatenation shit I had figured out was now wrong when I tried to paste it into an Access query.
I have to analyze 4x8x3800 records in three dimensions (hull, discipline, hierarchy) and figure out where the charging is fucked up. I’m holding on by my fingertips.
Did I mention it is a gorgeous day here in coastal Maine?
Monday
Another gorgeous day here. Warm, not too humid. I went into work early since I am supposed to be closing on my condo at 1100. This has been tentatively scheduled for months. I got calls from the title company, the realtor telling 1100 was on. This morning my mortgage agent asked if we could put it off.
Um. No. I rearranged my week to ensure I didn’t have to use any PTO to get through this closing, so I am off. Patiently waiting to head to the real estate office. Other than handing over a eleven grand check I can’t imagine what else needs to be signed. I have pre-signed everything. There won’t even be a ceremonial handing over of the keys since I already have them.
But I will be calling a locksmith to come change the locks. I don’t know who else has keys to this place.
Worse comes to worse – I’m already off. I’ll just go to the beach. But I still have fridge shopping to do. My fridge – which they refused to replace for 12 years and I refused to buy a refrigerator I would have to leave when I moved out – has been filling up the crisper drawers with water. And the back half is unusable because anything within 8 inches of the back freezes solid which is not all that desirable in a refrigerator.
In the three hours I was at work I did solve one syntax issue with my insipient charge string analysis database. Just as it turned 0900 and I had to clock out.
I hope this closing goes off without a hitch. I’m firewalled at work for the rest of the week.
