Potato in Ponderings of the Universe

I'm such a lazy updater lately.

The past few days I've felt like I had things to write about but now that I'm here my mind is blank.

This cold is just hanging on. At first I thought it might be because my immune system isn't quite right yet, but my mom and Aaron have had it for quite some time too, so I think it's just an extra stubborn virus. Last Saturday I had a bit of a scare. My temperature went up to 100.7*F and that's kind of at the point where you're supposed to get concerned and that there could be a possibility of major infection starting. We called up the MN Oncology hotline, described symptoms and then waited for the doctor on call to call us back. While waiting for the call back, I was so worried that I might have to go to the hospital and stay there again, and be stuck in one of those rooms with positive airflow to keep microbes at bay. It would just be so disheartening to have made it this far into treatment only to have to be hospitalized at the very end! The doctor called us back (I am seriously so impressed with this organization. Things are done in such a timely fashion. I mean, getting a call back within 20 min on a Saturday for a non-emergency? Pretty cool.) and didn't think my symptoms were terribly concerning. He just prescribed me a Z-pack and told me to keep monitoring my temperature, etc. Phew! I'll take a course of antibiotics over hospitalization any day! I do think that the fever was from the virus rather than something bacterial going on, but the Z-pack was a good just in case measure and would help prevent the occurrence of any secondary bacterial infections. I am starting to feel a bit more normal. Definitely less tired (this virus saps you of the ambition to do pretty much anything. There has been much sitting around and watching TV), my deluge of snot is turning into more of a trickle, and I'm definitely less congested. I do have a lingering headache, though.

I got my hairs trimmed yesterday. It didn't occur to me to take any pictures, but it pretty much looks like it did when I did the big chop. For being as thin as it is, especially through the bangs area, it looks really good. And feels wonderful! I've never had short hair before this, but if feels so good in the summer! This was only the 2nd time I've been to this stylist but I really, really like her. She is really skilled and her personality just works with me. She's really laid back and talks the exact right amount, where you don't have any awkward silences but don't feel like you're getting an entire life story or like you're being grilled. She's also a master colorist, so when I want to start doing some fun things with colors, I think she'll be really great with that as well.

My little cousin, Annie, has recently become a bit obsessed with me. She's 8 or 9, I think and wants to ask me tons of veterinary questions. She recently sent me a letter asking about heartworms, mites, and eye removal. It's cute and I want to give her good answers that are accurate and easy to understand, but not dumbed down. But, at the same time, I also kind of wish her parents would just google things for her because she'd get the same answer from that as she would from me. Does that make me a jerk? I will write her a good response letter. And look at my notes on each topic since it'll be good review for me too.

Can it just be the end of next week now? So sick of waiting and being anxious.
