Magic can be found anywhere, even in your kitchen. A spatula can be your wand and a mixing bowl can be your cauldron. Food not only nourishes the body but your spirit as well. Taking the extra time and effort to make the most out of your kitchen can and will significantly change your outlook on life and enrich it.
I discovered kitchen witchery about 5 years ago. Rather than a store bought bread for an offering, I tried my hand at Crescent Moon cakes. My first attempt was disastrous. I rushed and panicked my way through the recipe. Only the birds out in the front yard were able to appreciate it. The next day I tried again. This time I was calm and careful. I took my time, exercised patience and mindfulness. The results were jaw dropping.
Before that moment, taking pride in something so domestic, and finding the magic in it was a ridiculous concept. It really isn't. it has changed my outlook on not only just cooking, but my life. Since then I have made it a practice to combine all my domestic duties with magic and spirituality. Being mindful of each step and taking pride in it's presentation.
As you probably already figured out this book will be for the home and hearth...but primarily the kitchen. Enjoy!
Crescent Moon Cake Cookies
1 cup finely ground almonds
3 drops almond extract
1 1/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup confectioners sugar
1/2 cup butter softened
1 egg yolk
Combine almonds, almond extract, flour, and sugar until thoroughly mixed. Work in butter and egg yolk with hands; until well blended. Chill the dough for one hour.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Pinch off pieces of dough about the size of your thumb and shape into crescents. Place on greased cookie sheets and bake for about 16 minutes.
I assume substitions can be made for vegans and gluten allergies. I will experiment at a later date and update this post with my results.
