Catching the WRONG kind of breaks... in (W)hole

Holy frijoles. So. Yesterday was horrifying.

I only had Scarlet for a couple of hours in the morning, she left around 12:30, and I got Milo down for a nap around 1, and then I took Isaac and Kasin with me to get Kasin's back to school shopping done.

I had already got all of his supplies and spent about $50 on top of getting some stuff for free at a Gear Giveaway event in North Pole. Milo got his own little scissors and a drawstring backpack there, too, and has been practicing cutting ever since (doing REALLY good, too! Circles and everything!)

So we went to Walmart, I picked up a few things for the house, and we got Kasin a bunch of shirts. He got some silly ones ("I'm not ARGUING, I'm just explaining why I'M RIGHT!") and some basic ones, some striped tees, and some Vnecks with different coloured stripes on them, and a couple of really cool Batman and Punisher shirts. We got his gym shoes there, too. We found good deals and got him maybe 10 different shirts.

Cookie had been coughing a lot lately, and having these coughing fits where it sounded like she was trying to hack something up, but nothing was coming out. We took her to a vet appt at 2 after WalMart, and the Dr thought she had a kennel-cough kind of URI, like bronchitis. He gave her an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory/anti-histamine. After we left there, spending about 100$ more than I was expecting to, we went to Old Navy and Kasin tried on pants. He's a 14 HUSKY. Chunk. lol.. they're way too long but they fit in the waist. I'll have to hem them or pin them for him. Anyways, I got him 3 pairs of jeans for $10 each, and a pair of track type pants, and two more shirts.

Then we got home, and I let Cookie out to go potty, she played outside for a little bit with the kids, and I brought her in around 4. At like 4:45, I gave her dinner and then her medicine. Around 5:15, Ross's dad stopped by to pick up our loan payment. Cookie ran up to the door to meet him and he was saying hi and scratching her ears, and I tried to move her away from the door, and she looked up at me and I SCREAMED. Her entire face was swollen, and it looked like she had golf balls under her skin. Like, a couple DOZEN of them. It was HORRIBLE. Bill took off and I realized Ross had taken my van to the store.

I texted him right away and told him that I needed the car IMMEDIATELY and to HURRY and get home as soon as possible. I also called the vet and told them about her face and they told me to come back in. It felt like it took forever for Ross to get back, and Cookie was rubbing her face with her paws, rubbing it on the floor, trying to scratch it with her feet and rubbing it on people's legs and it was just awful. I was standing outside with her on the leash, Milo all dressed and ready to go. Ross came racing down the road and pulled into the driveway. "LOOK AT HER FACE!" I yelled, and loaded her into the car, along with Milo. Kasin had seen her face and started sobbing and hid in his room. He told me he didn't want to go with us to the vet. We raced across town to the Vet's office, and it was about 5:30, so rush hour traffic, hit every single red light, it took FOREVER.

I was FREAKED out. As soon as we walked into the office, they directed us to the exam room we'd been in earlier that day, and we went in and sat down. It took forever for the doctor to come back in, and he was SHOCKED at her face. He gave her a shot of prednisone/steroids, and a shot of benadryl. He told me to stop giving her the antibiotics and continue with the anti-inflammatory, because it is also an anti-histamine, and honestly she shouldn't have had such a bad reaction with that already in her system. He was shocked and wondered if she had gotten into something else, or if a bug had gotten her. I told him she hadn't been outside for a while before it happened and that it happened RIGHT after I gave her the meds, so I was because of the meds. They refunded me the $45 for the medicine and didn't charge me for coming back in or for getting the shots. He said if she was still puffy tomorrow (today) to give her some allergy meds at home, benadryl or claritin.

I got home and was told that Robin William died, apparently he put a plastic bag over his head and killed himself. I was stunned, and heartbroken. I'm still stunned and heartbroken. I don't think I've EVER been this upset about a celebrity death before. I'm crushed. Genie! Mrs. Doubtfire! Armand Goldman! Fender! I will miss you SO much. I spent last night watching Conan memorial videos to him, and of his appearances on the show. Heartbroken.

Then Kasin's friend who lives a couple houses down came over to play. They were hanging out in his room, looking at Kasin's new clothes and such, just jammin with music and hanging out. Then they went out to the trampoline to play. I had to yell out at them once to knock it off, because they were playing too rough and trying to push each other off of it, kicking each other and bouncing each other onto the edges. I told them to knock it off and they did. A little later, Ross left to go to the gas station for stuff he had forgotten at the store when I had him rush home. He decided to walk since it's close. It was about 8pm and I got Milo settled into my room with a last cartoon before bed, and I went to the bathroom. All of a sudden I hear SHRIEKING, like, HORRIBLE shrieking, and Kasin comes running into the house, sounding panicked, screaming for me.

I come down the stairs and Kasin is screaming that Gabe broke his arm and it's bent wrong. Gabe comes into the house, screaming this horrible scream, holding his arm up... when I looked at it, I could tell that both bones in his forearm were absolutely snapped in half. If he hadn't been holding his arm up with the other hand, it would have been flopped over. His arm looked like it was made of silly putty. It was DISGUSTING and HORRIBLE. I called his mom right away and tried to down play it, but then I realized the extend of the injury and I called her back from outside where the kids couldn't hear me and told her it looked REALLY bad. She came in her car, but not nearly fast enough. Those five minutes were EXCRUCIATING. Gabe was SHRIEKING with every tiny movement, holding his arm and saying it hurt SO MUCH. I told him I was sure it did and that there wasnt anything I could do, he would have to go to the ER so a Dr could fix it.

When his mom pulled up, we were all waiting at the end of the driveway. I helped load Gabe into the front seat and they sped away. I told her to let us know and wished her luck. They went directly to the ER. It's very close to our house, but I went inside and called ahead to let them know he was coming and that he had a badly broken arm and would need IMMEDIATE care. They ended up sedating him as soon as he got there, doing xRays and then splinting the arm before sending him home for the night. He was supposed to go back for surgery early this morning to have the bones reset and pinned. I felt (STILL FEEL) horrible, but his mom told me not to worry and not to feel bad, and that it wasn't our fault or anyone's fault, it was just an accident and he was in God's Hands.

He was apparently doing a front flip and didn't make it all the way over, so he put his arm down under him to catch his fall, but his body weight all came down onto that one arm and just snapped his forearm right in half. Kasin was really freaked out, he said it was a really loud snap and his arm bent right in the middle where it shouldn't bend, and he was really freaked out. He was nervous and scared and worried about Gabe. It was honestly the most horrifying thing I've ever seen. Way worse than Milo bashing his head open on a trunk in Kasin's closet, having blood gushing down his face.

Did I write about that? that's another thing that happened recently, Milo had to go to the ER and get his face taped shut with steristrips. They were going to glue it, but Milo didn't want glue. Whatever man, just close it up! It took several hours of sitting at Urgent Care before we could go home with what amounted to a tiny strip of medical tape. This was far more horrifying. Horrifying is the most appropriate word for it.

So yeah, that's been my life recently. Freaking emergency after emergency. It's not good.

I have an interview tomorrow to be a Kindergarten Aide at Anne Wein.. I can't decide if I want that position at all. It's only 15 hour a week, 3 hours a day... as an aid for a Kindergarten class. It would probably be good experience, and it might get my foot in the door for other positions, and I could still sub around that schedule, too... But I don't want to be someone's assistant. I want my own classroom. So I'm not sure whether to take this one seriously or not. I think I'm WAY over qualified for it, so I'll probably get it if I want it.. I just don't know if I want it... it would keep me from being able to accept full day or week-long sub positions, and I don't think the money will be worth it. I'll go to the interview and decide, I suppose. Wish me luck.. again.
