Always Somewhere in General

Two months at work and I am finally doing something with someone hanging over my shoulder. Boss is trusting she trained me well enough to do some things on my own.
No two days are the same.
Where I spend my days:

I’m well paid for geeking around on my computer. Pulling information from various sources and creating schedules, then correcting errors drove in by defects in the software and around and around we go.

Technically my job is managing “Post Adjudicated Change.” Basically the Navy pays us to plan change for both shipyards, then plan change just for us. “Adjudication and Modification of Contract.”

In a different life I would give the contracting officer the stink eye and ask “What Does That Mean?”

I know enough to be dangerous.

It happened. I work in a building with a thousand dudes. There are some women, but I’d guess less than 15% total.

Every hour I leave my cube and walk the perimeter of the building. That takes me though all the functional and detail design areas of the building, past all the status boards – with which I occasionally pause and feign interest.

Rounding the corner I went beak-to-beak with a stunning woman. Tall, long legs, model face. Hard hat, work boots. I was shocked by how pretty she was. My first thought was “you scare all these dweebs.”

The next day I crossed paths with her again – and lizard brain gonna do what a lizard brain is gonna do – it said “You have to find out who she is!”

Nope, nope, nope. Lessons learned. But I can at least ascertain her name and where she works, right?

I’m guessing production planning – because she isn’t there all the time.

Nope, nope, nope. Stay in your lane, do your job, make your money.

Break.

The weather has gone from dark, cold and gloomy-rainy to sunny and warm. I was going to mow the lawn yesterday. I walked out the front door and an envelope that had been stuck in the storm door fell to the ground.

60 day notice to vacate.

I knew they were in a ramp up to sell these places, but what a dickhead move. An envelope shoved in the storm door?

I’m going to have to shift my schedule to the left for a couple of weeks so I have time in the afternoons to make calls and set up getting a mortgage, call the realtor etc etc. and all the other crap that goes with buying a place I have been planning on buying for two years.

In at 5am, out at 1330. The problem with trying to do anything before or after work is everyone I need to talk to works the same hours as me.

My credit is stellar, and I have a good income. Now to finance this place and pay it off in four or five years. But. Fucking fed and their interest rate hikes. Oh yeah, and Fuck Joe Biden – rotting bag of oatmeal piece of shit.

Well. Off to mow the lawn after a jaunt to Lowe’s. Lawn mower is being temperamental, so I’ll swap the spark plug and price an electric lawn mower. My lawn mower is after all 14 years old.

Title song “Always Somewhere” was in fast rotation in the bars in A-Town, Kunsan South Korea in 1984. To a degree it reminds me of X1, the ache and longing when we were separated because of my job. I don’t even know if she is still alive. I hope she is happy wherever she is. It makes me sad she has never met her grandson.

I have a CD at a local bank that pays .2% interest. I'm hoping it will renew at one of those HIGHER rates.
