Tonight I succeeded in making homemade tiki torches. Out of Jack Daniels bottles, since I have at least a dozen of them.
I took a bottle and filled it with citronella. Specifically I just bought the tiki brand refill bottle. Then I bought tiki refill wicks at lowes and some large washers. I had to cut the wicks in half so they would fit through the washer holes. I soaked the wicks in the citronella for about an hour and lit them and they work great.
I also bought some kerosene and some cotton twine and I'm experimenting with making a kerosene lamp, but I need to let the braided twine soak overnight before I test it out. I'm understandingly much more hesitant about the kerosene lamp since it could easy blow up in my face. I have that one set up in the largest size Jack Daniels bottle but it's only about a fifth filled with kerosene.
I have so many bottles. I would love to be able to reuse them as lamps. I've seen scented oils online for lamp making so if this is something I enjoy I might make some for the inside of the home as well. There's just something charming about an oil lamp.
It's 8:20 and I'm in bed for the night. How lame, I know.
