Learning a song in Ups and Downs

I usually know tidbits of songs and that but I really tried to do the 'Devin Townsend' approach of almost zero covers. Eh, I think its good for me to have things to practice on. Right now, I'm learning 'Going Blind' by The Melvins. Man, I like Melvins almost as much as Tomahawk (funny cause the bassist is in both bands) - I'm sort of on the fence with Mr. Bungles Albums, all but 'California' at least. So far, I realized my studying theory and whatnot has shredded my sense of simplicity. I've learned to complicate things and its not working, it all makes things feel stiff. I need a new approach and through some awesome bands like Melvins I'll find that!
