A couple of old crocks... in Another Open Diary refugee

What a fun, fun day we're having today... spent all morning in the doctor's office with John. His blood sugar has gone crazy (480-something) and I had a major asthma attack last night, so I had to get prednisone. Thank goodness for prednisone injections - I couldn't possibly have held up all morning without one! My appointment took an hour as a walk-in, John was there for three while they debated what to do with him (the doc was all in favour of sending him over to the ER for insulin and John talked him out of it. He had to go have bloodwork IMMEDIATELY and if the doc doesn't like it, to the ER we will go (but hopefully it's okay...) I tried to make a post from the doc's office but my phone has such crappy internet that I can't use it except at home. Back on the diabetic diet we go, with no parole this time. Could be worse - we could both be in the ER... the doc really didn't like my tachycardia but it just comes from the ventolin - I'm super-sensitive to it... so he changed my nebuliser formula to something that tastes really bitter but he says it shouldn't affect my heart rate so much. I'm supposed to nebulise three times a day (it should be four but he wants to minimise the side-effects as much as possible) and rest and go back again on Friday to make sure I'm doing better... John has to go back Friday too.

480s is wayyy high! Glad he\s still in the land of the living!

Why is he resisting the use of insulin?

Because it's expensive and we had no idea that he was having diabetes issues... if he needs it, we'll do it, but he wants to try diet and metformin again first. They worked like a charm last time, and the only reason we got lazy was because his pancreas recovered and he truly wasn't diabetic for two whole years!

You two are doing great on getting your health checked and on track. The diabetic diet could change your lives tremendously, I'm guessing. I hope you'll be able to figure out crockpot or otherwise simple meals that won't exhaust you or break the bank while you get things under control and your taste preferences get reset.
