The moment I turned out of my driveway and saw a dog taking a dump, I knew it was going to be one of those days. Beautiful, sunshiney day and the first thing I see is a dog straining to poo. Great. Well, I wish I didn’t have that thought because my drive was not ideal. Nothing like accident or police, luckily.

I’m on my way to my second therapist appointment, which means I am still unfamiliar with how to get there. Now, the therapist is only 13ish miles away but in my overly-congested state that is like a 36 min drive. Got my GPS set, I’m overthinking, and I’m off. I’m about 15-20 min into my drive and my phone dies. [BLEEP]

Freak out about to start. But I stopped it and thought, use your brain instead of letting it get the best of you. So I keep driving until I found a gas station. Of course, they don’t have local maps (only giant ones of the whole state), but they do have a phone charger. Solution: I buy the charger and get to the car… However, I have to say – Thank you, Apple, for making sure we ALL have to buy new chargers because your charger no longer has that nice USB port that my 2012 car takes. [BLEEP]

Brain, think. Solution: OK, they must have a port for the lighter I can plug this into. Back into the gas station I go. Problem solved and I am on my way. [BLEEP] phone needs time to charge. OK, well, I know what town I have to go to so I will head there and charge on the way. Drives ensues.

On my way and a light turns red. Checks phone. [BLEEP] My phone is not charging but it has turned on. OK, great, I can try and get the address at least. However, I have to say — Thank you again, Apple, for making me have to sign into my Apple ID because this is an unknown charging device. OK, fine, I will log in. Oh, but wait, my phone has no battery beyond 1% and it won’t let me get my full password in before it shuts off. [BLEEP]

Meanwhile, I am still driving to unknown location in known town. Verizon store is approaching on my right. This is my solution! Pulls over and runs into store. “Can I charge my phone or buy a charger with a USB cord? I am super late for an appointment and lost the address.” “Sure, it is $1 per minute to charge.” What? Well, OK. I have no choice. Charging ensues.

I am able to successfully contact my therapist. I briefly explain why I am late so she doesn’t think I am ghosting her. Anxiety relieving, but I am still late. Now, I just have to pay for my 5 minutes and get out of here. Great, I only have a $100 bill so I’m going to have to wait for the guy who is now helping a customer. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Guy: “I was kidding about the fee. It is free.” AYFKM!!!!!! “Ok, thanks so much!” Run. I’m Out.

Miraculously, I am only 12 min drive from her office. I get there. Apologies. Apologies. “I understand my time will be cut short because I’m late.” Talk. Talk. Talk. All good, I guess. I was actually proud of myself. An experiment of resiliency when alone. And I solved the problem.
