Yes yes! It's that time again! All the school supplies are on sale and I LOVE school supplies!!!
This year's school supply list is pretty short for 1st grade. At KJ's school they do a lot of community (share) stuff. Each student buys glue, pencils, erasers, ect... but the teacher takes all that and puts them into a community box. Each table (classes don't have individual desks until 2nd or 3rd grade) has a pencil basket that students use during the day. When they need crayons, scissors, glue, ect they have to go to the community box and get some. That seems kinda weird to me considering when I went to school the only thing you brought to school that was "community" was the mandatory box of tissues. You even have to buy index cards and envelopes for the teacher to use all year too (usually to send home notes about your child). The good part is that every year they have an orientation day (usually the Friday before school starts) and you can bring in all your school supplies then and you meet the teacher and get to see your classroom and all that fun jazz. If your child is old enough for a desk you can set up your desk and all that. Back in my day, you just went to school on the first day nervous because you weren't sure where you were going and you had to drag your 100 lb Bookbag with all your school supplies in it. At least this way your kid knows where to go when they get off the bus and even knows where their cubby/locker and assigned table/desk is and they only come with their Bookbag and personal stuff.
Anyway.... Like I was saying I love back to school sales because I always stock up on spirals and pens/pencils and stuff like that for myself as well. I am very scatter brained and if I don't write crap down then I don't get stuff done. I have a spiral that I keep my stuff to do lists, I have a composition book that I keep in the kitchen with the week's dinner plan and the grocery list I put together from that plan. I also usually keep a spiral that I wrote notes to myself in and stuff I want to remember. So I'm always using notebooks and all that. I just get excited when I pick up good deals and have them waiting for me in the closet instead of buying them when I need them and spending $2-3 for a spiral that I could have only paid 50-99 cents for at a back to school sale. And I LOVE new pens. I do have a bit of an obsession with pens. Ever since preschool I've had a pen obsession. Odd, I know.
