Whew! So far so good! D-Day for Mom started out with my Sis waiting in the car around the corner for me to drive up so that we could go in together. Husbands were in tow. I opened with a prepared paragraph in which I stated that we were here to help her let us help her to move out of her house by Sept 1. Mom interjected "That's not going to happen!" but I continued: Let me tell you what we mean by that.
Positive discussion ensued, and we agreed that I could come up 4 days later to start shopping for possible places to move to. That was yesterday. So, my husband and I drove 4 hours each way last Friday for the "intervention" - for which my sister and I had nightmares and stress etc etc ahead of time - and then I drove back that same 4 hours yesterday and home today with my dogs - a product of me not wanting to leave my dogs alone at home and my husband not wanting to stay in Mom's filthy house -
and voila! Prayers were answered and magic ensued. I got there late in the day for both Mom and me yesterday, so we only had time to tour the first place on my list: a BrandNewRetirementVillageWhereMyFriend'sMom-In-LawLives
Dinner, chat, tv, bed. Morning - I had internet work to do from Mom's house for 1 hour then we set out. Toured 2 apartment complexes and ended up at a facility which was on my googled internet search but Surprise! was a new owner of a facility we were familiar with as several of our aunts/ great-aunts had already spent their last years there.
Sharon was awesome working my mom. All three previous places we had visited, when asked when Mom was looking to move, she hedged with vague comments (even though at intervention day on July 4 we got her to agree to Sept 1). When Sharon talked to her, Mom said she wanted to move in Labor Day weekend, and when Sharon asked her what she was looking for in a new home and why she wanted to move out of her house, Mom opened up about her dimensia-related issues and how she felt she was no longer able to be responsible all alone.
