You Will Always be my Queen in Roxy's Life

I finally defeated Daylight Saving Time. Yes, I know we are well more than a week from when it happened. There is just something about not wanting to get out of bed when you are under a weighted blanket, especially when it is dark out. I usually get up when it is dark, but it is dark out. Must be done because I love to caption the European media I have access to.

Baby T, my cat who seconds as an alarm clock, has been on point. She meows at me every morning at 5:15. No reason, just literally for me to get up and hang with her while she sleeps. I won’t feed her until 7:00 in hopes she will let me sleep in on the weekends, but she doesn’t. I am certain that she understands English because she does things that I ask her to do immediately after.

T is a bit bougie. She is diabetic and needs insulin twice a day, so I give her a pass. She has discovered that if she poops on the mat outside her litter box I will clean it immediately. Now, I clean this chick’s box twice a day (diabetic, pees often), so it’s not like the box is ever dirty. She poos like a man so it is frustrating.

And my god, insulin prices - yuck - Obviously, I cannot insure my cat so I was paying about $180ish every 6 weeks for an insulin pen. This does not include costs for needles or disposal of needles, or the immunity-boosting powder, or prescription food (her weekly food budget exceeds mine, granted I don’t eat much meat). This chick eats 2-3 cans of veal a day – see, bougie.

That said, I worked with a CVS pharmacist to see about getting a deal. They could do a bulk of 5 pens for just over $400. That beats the price I was paying. Yay, OK. Credit card will help, but I can pay that off. The savings say it all. Setting your cat up at a CVS for prescriptions, sounds easier than it is.

Anyways, I finally get the script and provide it to said pharmacist. She tells me there is a generic which will bring my 5-pen price down to $200. Yay. But is this the same? Why yes, of course, just a generic. I mean, I take generics so why not? I then was talking to my friend Emile, who is diabetic, about my savings. He told me to look into this site that provides coupons for medicines. So I did. That then brought my cost down to cents over $100.00.
I couldn’t believe it. Over time, this is like an $800.00 savings! T has been diagnosed as diabetic since November 2020. How am I just learning of this?

Filled the script and paid. (about 5 days after I filled it I picked it up) Happiness SEVEN days later, the vet calls. She was notified that we changed the script to a generic. Dun, dun, dun, she tells me, they have no absorption studies of the generic insulin on cats. Apparently, all the “numbers” are similar between the generic and original, so she gave me a go-ahead but with monitoring… Well, what does that mean? [BLEEP] This means I am going to have to make a vet appointment in a couple of months so they can check her sugar levels. There’s another $300+ glucose tests are a costly

Well, I mention this now because I am starting the new generic insulin tonight and I am a little shook about it. Despite complaining about all of the costs, T is my best friend. I have had her since 2007 and she has helped me through some trying times. Don’t discount the value of unconditional love from a pet. Fingers crossed all is well.

Food Life

Stuffed artichoke. Enough said. I will be eating artichoke once or twice a week until early May when their season ends. Yum. Last night, I just roasted with some Italian seasoning, salt and pepper, and minced garlic. Dipped in some YumYum sauce. Um, YUM The stuffed ones (which are my fav) are more of a weekend job.
