Zho-Zho's been having digestive issues lately - she was constipated for a few weeks and now she's got diarrhea instead) and we were getting worried that she had something serious wrong with her, so we took her to the vet yesterday. She was as good as gold for the vet, and he doesn't think there's anything wrong with her other than overeating and underexercise. She's become very sedentary since we moved and she doesn't go outside and run up and down the stairs, and she's gained a ton of weight from lying around eating kibbles all day (funny, except for the kibble bit, this last sentence describes me too :P ). Anyway, he sold us a bag of special Royal Canin vet food that's supposed to help regulate her insides, and we have to take the regular kibble away and supervise their feedings so she gets the expensive kind and the other three don't (since we're going to be feeding them less and supervising, I think we might try to transition the others to a more expensive kibble from the pet store instead of the Iams 'sensitive systems' we've had them eating. If she doesn't seem better by the middle of next week we have to take her back and have some tests and stuff done, so keep your paws crossed that this fixes her! At forty bucks a bag, she's eating far better than we do!

Scheduled feeding is going to be an 'interesting' experience... I forgot to take up the feeder last night so I emptied it at five this morning when I remembered. At ten am nobody had noticed but Tessie was wandering around mewing plaintively so I thought she was hungry and I pulled out their bowls to distribute breakfast. The girls came RUNNING when they heard the chink of their food dishes, but they were positively disgusted that they only had kibble in them and not gooshy. Much milling around ensued, and in the end three out of the four walked away without a nibble. Zho-Zho ate half of hers (half 'special' kibble and half regular) and I put them all away again. I'll offer food again at lunchtime... I wonder how long it'll take them to get hungry enough to understand the new system? The poor babies have NEVER had restricted kibble before in their lives! They were also totally confused and disgruntled when all their plaintive begging yesterday did not bring forth some of mommy's dinner for their nomming... no more person food for the babies - I'll cook them a PLAIN chicken breast of their very own for their treats...

daisy gets a plain cooked chicken breast... a little bit each day so she will still eat her dry food. no smelly dog food for her or my nose. she's doing fine on what i feed her. it costs me $45 for a 30# bag. but, that bag will last her for months since she only gets 3/4 of a cup a day plus a bit of chicken. she eats less in the summer time... too hot to eat much. i do hope the special cat food helps your kitty get regulated. take care,

Seems like a good routine, but I would have difficulty adjusting to it! Good luck to you and the kitties!
