Today, I finally got through to someone at social and health services to renew our food stamps. I had called on two separate occasions prior to today and waited on hold for a combined 8 hours. But I called as soon as they opened this morning and got through.

They needed some additional documents so I had to head into the office. It worked out because I had some library books due today too. And the office is a mile from the hospital where Summer is getting induced.

She’s a week overdue yesterday and they didn’t have any beds available until 4:30pm last night. But her and my brother got in and they did a foley bulb induction. She is having contractions but she isn’t dilated. I stopped by to visit them around 3pm and brought them burgers and shakes for dinner and a bunch of snacks. Her nurse didn’t give her a food menu and my brother had been buying food from the cafeteria so I requested one for her. And I asked the nurse to bring a popsicle too. Which she received.

So I hope I helped. It’s the same hospital I delivered my son 4 years ago, and I had worked in a hospital before in inpatient pharmacy so I kind of know my way about there. I just reminded them they could ask for warm blankets, socks, and even toothbrushes too. Right before I left, they started her on some low dose pitocin and hopefully that gets the party started.

Fingers crossed that the baby has a small head and doesn’t look like the Michelin man.
