Lockstep in The irresistible urge to rant, riff and ramble

What fundamentalists fear the most is twofold, mirror aspects of the same thing:

  1. That good and bad is determined, not by proclamations from a bully pulpit, but by the choices each of us make according to our conscience.

  2. That the choices thus made can be critiqued by others who do not live in fear of said pulpit.

Of the two, it is the second that really frightens them.

It should be the first.
