We’ve been so many places already and had so much fun and it’s not even officially a year on the road yet! Colorado was amazing....the bagels in New York are second to none (driving the truck through the city sucks, though). We’ve eaten some amazing food and met some amazing people. We are just coming off a forces extended home time vacation. I say forced because we wouldn’t have been here over 2 weeks, but we had to get the truck worked on. That’s one thing I didn’t realize…how much time truck maintenance and repairs takes out of your work time. So story time! We’ve never been stopped for inspection at a weigh station or crossing the border into Canada. But in the last month we’ve been stopped 3 times! The 1st Randy was driving coming out of California. He got stopped at a weigh station. They said we were missing a gas cap for our tank and a brake light was out. They were about to take us out of service for the brake light but we double checked it and it WAS working. They double checked and let us go. So we got the gas cap fixed. Next time Randy was driving again across the border into Canada. They tell us to pull to the side. Uh oh. Then they ask us to step out of the truck while they search it. Standard random procedure they say. Well apparently pepper spray and tasers are illegal in Canada as are pocket knives that you can open with a button. So they think all of these are Randy’s. The knives are mine for the most part and the taser batons are still in the boxes. They say they could fine us $1500 (but they don’t). They just tell us we’re subject to search for the next 6 YEARS every time we cross the border. So we’re not going to Canada for a while lol. The last search I was driving and had just crossed back into the U.S. from Canada. Got stopped at a weigh station just over the border. Didn’t cite us, just said we had to get the ABS light that was on on our dash fixed and update a New York sticker/paperwork. He was actually very nice. So fortunately the next weekend we were planning on being back home anyway for my abuela’s 101st birthday so we just figured we’d get the truck fixed while we’re home. And that took 2 weeks but the truck is finally good to go. No more problems (knock on wood). Were headed to Virginia and then Wyoming next so we’ll be out until Thanksgiving. On to more adventures!
