The remarkable legacy of Queen Elizabeth II will be long remembered in Daydreaming on the Porch

It still seems unbelievable that Queen Elizabeth II died yesterday. Just two days ago she was receiving the new prime minister, frail, but standing, that famous smile radiant as always.

What a remarkable and extraordinary human being. She was a good and decent person who inherited enormous responsibilities, which she carried out faithfully to the end of her life.

The most astonishing thing happened just before the death announcement: a double rainbow over Buckingham Palace after heavy rains had subsided.

I am so sad she is gone. I guess because as long as I have been alive she was the Queen. Now the world seem a little more out of kilter. I don’t have much regard for Charles :-(

I’ve come to like Charles more and more because he is a decent man, and has very strong views on the environment, which he will have to squelch now that he is king, But the environment is much more then a political issue. It’s one on which the fate of the world hangs. He needs to speak out!

His mother has always been a world treasure.

I do think he has some good interests environmentally but he was a cheat and psychologically abusive with Diana. I have read that he is a real twit to deal with demanding to travel with huge amounts of clothes , everything even his underwear has to be ironed and has had a valet to “ dress” him all his life. He has never done a day of physical labor in his life .
Also his recent activities when he personally accepted suitcases and shopping bags stuffed with millions of dollars’ worth of cash from a controversial Qatari politician between 2011 and 2015, according to an explosive new report. Was shocking . More shocking still that nothing came of it . It makes you wonder what he is doing for the EU for all that cash .

It’s sad, but Charles from an early age was heaped with expectations that any mere mortal would find unattainable, especially from his Old Guard father. He was pressured to marry Diana because she was the fairy tale princess, and Camilla looked like a hag. The marriage should never have happened. He always loved Camilla. She was/is his soulmate, despite her flaws, and his.

Also, remember that the British tabloids love nothing better than to publish scurrilous and defamatory gossip.

Accepting the money the way he did was poor judgment. That was a number of years ago. I’m not excusing it, but if nothing else it looked terrible from a PR standpoint.

I really think that in the past five years, and especially since Philip’s passing and his mother’s increasing frailty and passing, he realizes the enormity of the tasks ahead and is rising to the occasion. I wish him success as he streamlines the monarchy, which despite the castles and lavish trappings will, if we survive climate change, be much more like the other royal families in Europe which linger on in inherited blood lines, and nothing much more.

This will be better for the whole country because there’s way too much pomp and ceremony, which I like for its pageantry, but also know it’s ridiculously and shamefully expensive in this day and age when so many people are suffering. That said, the royal family has done a lot of good with their charities.

Charles, I think, is more an eccentric than a “twit,” and I guess since he’s lived with the expectations of privilege all his life, he can continue to have his underwear ironed, but that more than likely was a tabloid bone thrown out for the anti-monarchists! 🥺🤔

I do hope you are right . It would be good for the UK if he turned out to be an admirable king . Lord knows he has waited a long time to have a meaningful role. I suspect Elizabeth did not have a lot of confidence in him which is why she refused to give him much responsibility for so long. I hope he is a good king, He does seem to have a heart .

I think almost everyone in America is talking about the death of Queen Elizabeth and her guiding hand. She was a woman of strength and dignity. The world was lucky to have her and is a good reminder that greatness can come from unexpected corners.

She was a woman of strength and dignity. That’s a really good way of putting it.

Those rainbows are the leprechauns waiting to demonstrate their feelings.
