We did it!
We had a beautiful day, August 20th, and the kids had a blast. We got a ton of compliments on our cupcakes, which my cousin Emily made for us, and our Mexican taco bar situation was TO DIE FOR, we also had a Ben and Jerry’s truck come and do ice cream for everybody. We had about 20 kids in attendance and they were all screaming and jumping up and down for the ice cream truck when it rolled up haha it was really cute. It was CRAZY hot and we were all MELTING the whole day, but otherwise it was lovely. Because it was SO hot, we wanted to do all of our posed photos prior to the ceremony because we knew our make up and hair would get ruined in the heat. It was so hectic and chaotic that we ended up doing some of the photos without my VERY best friend, Mike, who was my “best man,” and we were DEVASTATED when we realized this. I had a friend edit him into some of the photos, but I still feel terrible. We also neglected to do photos with just us and our bridesmaids, us and our “Grooms”men, etc. We got some lovely whole group photos and some with our dads with us and the kids, a couple family shots for her family and my family, etc, but not as many as I would have liked to get. We were running late and everything was pure mayhem, but the pictures turned out pretty and the ceremony was gorgeous. Our DJ was really obnoxious and kept leaving his station and was eating and getting ice cream every time I tried to locate him to do anything, he also kept wandering off to smoke. I dont think anybody ended up dancing outside of our “family dance” and the individual dances we did- Chanel danced with her older brother, I danced with Kasin, and Chanel and I danced together. Mostly everyone just hung out, had some drinks, ate good food, and chatted. There were some lawn games for the kids to play, and a playground too.
Chanel’s 3 kiddos’ little half (mom’s side) sister came, and her older (half, dads side) brother and their dad. I was really hoping Milo and Ayden (half sis Autumn’s older brother) would hit it off and become buds, but they were being shy at each other and mostly ignored one another. Ayden and Parker are super close and always say they’re brothers (they aren’t related in any way, but that’s not super relevant lol) and since Milo and Parker actually ARE brothers, I wanted them to kind of form a Three Musketeers brotherly bond, but maybe next time. They always say they’re going to move here and be closer to us, and we always tell their dad, Robert, that we’d whole heartedly support that and would help out with the kids as much as we can so he can get established and find work and everything. They just recently moved to Sacramento from Nevada, and they’re living with a good friend of Robert’s and she got him a job at the restaurant where she works. Hopefully they can save up some money to make a bigger move in the near future and be closer.
I got to meet a ton of Chanel’s family that I’ve never met before, one of her cousins was away at college when I met the rest of his family so I had never met him, he brought his girlfriend and she was lovely. Both of Chanel’s brothers came, and I’d never met either of them, and they brought their girlfriends as well. They were all excited and welcoming, which was a nice switch from the other side of Chanel’s family who I had met several years ago but felt ignored by. I had a whole mental breakdown in a hotel that night after I met her grandfather and mother and father in law and everyone ignored me and no one spoke to me and when I tried to talk to them they looked at me like I was insane and they had no idea who I was. Nobody would respond to me. Chanel wasn’t doing a good job introducing me to people. We went back to the hotel and I cried and cried and cried. So this group was a WHOLE lot nicer, her bonus mom was unfortunately hospitalized for mental health issues just a few days before the wedding, but her bonus dad came and bonus family aunts and uncles, and they were all amazing and so sweet.
We requested Lowes/Home Depot gift cards as wedding gifts, and we made out pretty well with them! We had planned on using whatever we got to replace our flooring in the house we bought (almost exactly a year ago now!) and so far we’ve done the kitchen ourselves. We need to put the trim back up, and the transition beam between the dining room and kitchen, but otherwise it’s all finished! We are going to use the same flooring for our entryway, too. The guy at the store helped us calculate how much flooring we needed and it seemed INSANE to us, but we went with it since he’s the professional… and he definitely gave us way too much flooring. We have 35 boxes, and we used like 6 on the kitchen. The entry way is smaller and much more straight forward than the kitchen (it’s a big rectangle shape and doesn’t have a ton of weird shapes we’ll need to cut) so it should be quick and easy, and I bet it takes 4 boxes. So we have… 25 extra boxes. insert eye roll
Not sure how that will play out, but we have someone from Home Depot coming out on Friday to measure our upstairs hallways and the living room so that we can have the floors replaced in those rooms, we have old nasty carpets in there and I want vinyl planks or laminate. It’s kind of a tough decision because the dining area has laminate flooring, so it would make the most sense I think to have the same laminate throughout the rest of the top floor, but I would rather have vinyl planks and I have no idea where the laminate in the dining room CAME from… idk. We’ll see how that goes when we get to it!
Today is the first day of school for our kiddos, it’s Kasin’s SENIOR YEAR!!! and Milo’s first year of Middle School (6th Grade!), Ariel’s last year of Elementary School (5th!!!) Parker’s FIRST YEAR of Elementary School (Kindergarten in our district is it’s own building/school with like 20 K classes) for 1st grade, and Addisyn is in 2nd grade! This is the only year Ariel Addisyn and Parker will be in the same school! Kasin and Milo were in school together for K and 6th and that was the only year, so I’m glad the littlest have this opportunity too! I’m also glad Milo and Parker wont ever be in the same school hahahaaaa!
I’m just rambling here now, but that’s the update!
