I think I wrote about the falling out with J&K at Thanksgiving, before OD shut down. Either way, the short version is that my filter is off when I'm sick, Karen knows that I don't enjoy her company, Jack and Karen are mad, yadda yadda, I'm excused from Neilsclan Family Command Appearances (except when I'm not.)
Anyway. Fast forward to now, when Karen is sticking her beak in Neilsmom's affairs.
Only, this time, it's looking like K's busybodying is a potentially a good thing, because Neilsmom is doing much, much worse than she's been letting on, and there's a weird dynamic with Neilsdad, and it's very much keeping up appearances.
And now Neil knows, and he's in the middle of it, and trying to mediate the situation between his parents while simultaneously trying to advocate for his mom. Sticky, but he's threading the needle really gracefully, so far.
I'm enjoying being the one on the outside, this time. Definitely with him, but my job is to listen, not to fight. (I did ask if he wanted me to get involved, but he wants to try to handle things on his own. Probably because I would be in scorched-earth mode by this point, and that's a little less desirable when the firestorm would have been directed at one of the parents.)
