In 1992 I was flat on my back listening to this song on the upper rack in a two man stateroom on the USS Saratoga. Halfway down the catapult one stroke. As we crossed the north Atlantic en route to what was supposed to be a "vacation" cruise. Desert Storm was over. We were going to make ports of call in Spain, France, Italy, Corsica, Greece, Turkey and Israel.
The old Yugoslavia came apart at the seams and all bets were off.
"Poison Glen" haunts me because I really don't know what the song is about.
I was listening to a lot of new age stuff back then, so laying sweating on Navy issued sheets with a cheap pair of earbuds in with a CD player velcroed to the lateral bulkhead over my head made sense.
I was thirty. I had my wings. I felt like I was all grown up. Little did I know.
