Good morning from Texas! in Muddling Through As Best I Can

Just a quick entry to keep myself current. I am determined to bore everyone with the minutiae of my life.
I don’t know if I mentioned in my previous post, but last October I resigned from the prison system after 15 years, and now work for an oilfield hospitality company in the west Texas desert. The heat and dust are a bit oppressive, and I swear, if my car gets ONE MORE SCRATCH from tumbleweeds, I am going to lose it!
The sunrises and sunsets are spectacular, so there’s that. The scorpions and snakes are out already, that’s not so spectacular, but I watch where I’m walking at night out here.
I’m pretty bushed at the end of my shift each day. Immediately after accepting the job as the night-time front desk, three people quit. So, I check guests in and out, help in the kitchen, fold linens, and do emergency maintenance calls. It was supposed to be a simple desk job suited to an old man with bad feet, but I’m still enjoying it. Eventually, they’ll get some additional staff and it’ll slow down. It’s still much less depressing than working in a prison, I can tell you that. We sorely need prison reform here.
I have four more weeks until I can make the trip back home to south Texas to see my kids and grandkids. I’ve never been away from my kids and grandkids like this, it takes some getting used to. But, it’s a fun job overall, and it’s helping me accomplish some financial goals, so I’m here for the duration.
At any rate, everyone is doing well at home, life has been calm in recent months, and I honestly can’t think of anything to complain about. Go me!
I hope that wherever you are in the world, you have a wonderful day (or night), and I will be back soon.
