Match Day in Simple Truths

So proud of my niece. She has devoted the last 10 years of her young life to her determination to become a doctor. It has not been an easy road, she had a lot of stumbling blocks. And then a miracle happened. She was selected for a special program at Georgetown University for promising students who had been denied admission to other medical schools. And she thrived. She graduates in May as an MD. Yesterday was Match Day for residency. I didn’t know what that was until now. What an exciting and emotional day! She had her top three hopefuls out of ten options. And she was matched with one of her top three – LSU in New Orleans, where her mom lives (we are from there); she did her undergrad at Tulane. I love this picture. I have never in her life seen her look so happy.
