It is Sunday night, the last night of midwinter break here in NYC and I am starting to get my lessons together for the week…yikes! I of course meant to get my March slides ready at some point, but really didn’t have time.
Monday I went to my rheumatologist and he officially has diagnosed me with psoriatic arthritis and has prescribed Taltz. It’s an injectable medication. Waiting on my insurance to ok it (I think they did because I got a phone message that said a medication was okayed, but only until the end of March, so I need to make a phone call) and then call the office to make an appointment so the nurse can train me on how to inject the meds. I’m nervous because I’m going to have to inject myself, but at least I have my BIL to chat with about it. I saw him on Thursday when I dropped my sister back home and he said the worst part really is the anticipation of the needle, but it really doesn’t hurt. My dr also said that I should rotate between my thighs and my abdomen to prevent infection, which is freaking me out, but my BIL said he does the same thigh and he’s been ok. I think the thigh I’ll be ok with, it’s the abdomen. That is scary to think about for whatever reason. Anyway, my dr also prescribed me vitamin D and a stronger pain medication (it’s like Aleve, but stronger) and man that has helped so much this week! I’ve only taken one pill per day and it lasts all day and I don’t feel as stiff in the morning. I’ve also noticed a little more energy throughout the day. He said not to take it if I’m feeling fine, so we’ll see how this week goes. I’m glad to be down to one pill instead of 2 and it’s TINY! So hopefully I’ll really be feeling better in the next few weeks.
Tuesday I had CPR/AED training at school (extra cash!) with Sameena. That was fine. We ended up getting out earlier than expected, so we got lunch and then tried to get a little work done before my sister met me at school. My big sister is the BEST and has been helping me paint the house and giving me tips on how to paint and colors and everything (Thanks ASH!!) She took the train in from CT and met me at school. We had pizza and hung out.
Wednesday was painting day. We got to my FILs around 10am and had to move everything out of the living room. He hadn’t even started using the fridge! All the appliances were installed and he hasn’t been using them for whatever reason. I told him it’s fine for him to use the kitchen, that’s why it’s there, but he’s not. Anyway, once he and Dann went upstairs, we moved everything from the old fridge into the new fridge and all of the pantry items into the pantry and moved the fridge and wire shelving into the kitchen temporarily. The living room is now a beautiful light french grey and my FIL was very happy with the color. Dann was fixing some of the walls upstairs and my FIL worked on the bathroom (I think). We got the whole room painted with 2 coats (except for the ceiling which only needed one thankfully and Ash tackled that job), cleaned up, and home by 5pm.
Thursday the walls upstairs were not ready, so I drove Ash home. Dann brought the kids to daycare and took care of the walls so we could paint on Friday. Had lunch with Ash and Tim, then drove back home.
Friday, we got to my FILs around 11am I think. We got there later than I wanted to. It’s difficult to get 2 kids and a procrastinating husband out the door on time. I primed the bathroom (!!) and we painted the hallway upstairs. Dann and his dad made a platform so we could work on the walls above the staircase. We only had a gallon of paint left, so we painted as much as we could with it. We got 2 coats over the staircase and one coat on the rest of the hallway, including the ceiling. The house is from like the 1920’s or 1930’s, so the wall connecting the outer wall and the ceiling is curved. We decided it would be easiest and prettiest to continue the paint all the way up and I love it! We didn’t get the walls as even as we maybe could have and my FIL was not happy when we left. I’m pretty sure he scraped all the paint and re-sanded the walls and we have a lot more painting to do, but it’s getting there.
Saturday my bestie came to watch the kids in the morning for a few hours (she graciously fit us in as she had other plans later on and I’m so grateful!) so we could go paint. I picked her up and got home by 8:30am. Dann and I left a little before 9am and my car’s check engine light went on and the anti-skid light came on. It wasn’t raining or icy, so that was weird. The car started shaking too. So instead of going to paint, we went to the mechanic. I needed a new ignition coil and spark plugs and needed an oil change in another 200 miles, so we got that and a tune up done too. $600 later and my car is as good as new. We sat there for like 2.5 hours though. I was kinda upset we didn’t get to finish painting, but we did pick up 2 more gallons of the french grey and moving boxes from Home Depot. Drove Dee home, got extra Starbucks (because why not lol), packed some boxes and we hung out together as a family.
Sunday we went to BJs and Target, I meal prepped and cleaned, we dropped off the laundry, and just hung out together. It was nice to just be together today. We never get days like this, so it was nice to just spend time together. Got to joke around and cuddle and chill. I started my day off a little grumpy because the kids both got up and were arguing and I ended up having to get up with them on my last day off and then it’s always a struggle to get Dann out of bed and up so we can get our day started, but we got it together. Once all the errands were finished I really calmed down.
Tuesday I see Elton John for the very final time probably ever. It’s going to be an emotional day. I took a vacation day on Wednesday so I won’t have to worry about being too tired at school. Gotta go tackle those slides for work this week. Later!
