So. Harry Enfield has been accused of being racist once again. https://uk.tv.yahoo.com/harry-enfield-in-bbc-race-row-%E2%80%93-daily-tv-round-up-100448081.html What's wrong with us in this fucking country? Why are white people so quick to point fingers and accuse people of being racist whenever they make a joke? Jeremy Clarkson got this treatment earlier last month because he said the word "slope". I'm not going into more detail over this bollocks again, but we don't consider the word "slope" offensive in this country. We don't use it as a racist slur; the Americans do. Clarkson, love him or hate him, is very much English - it would never have occurred to him to use "slope" as a racist slur.
Now it's Harry Enfield in the firing line. I've got news for you, treacle. Sometimes a joke is just a fucking joke. Regardless of whether or not you were offended, that's all it ever is. I know that the PC brigade is something of a fucking majority these days, but will you please stop getting fucking offended at the drop of a hat? He made some jokes. There is a difference between joking and being racist. Seriously, give it a fucking rest. It's tiresome, you unbelievable pricks.
"But! But! He blacked up in one of his sketches! He blacked up! WAAAAAAH!"
So fucking what? I recall a movie where the Wayans brothers, who are somewhat black, portrayed two white women and no-one batted an eyelid. Okay, so the movie sucked, but I don't recall anyone getting het-up because they portrayed a different race and gender. I also recall Ricardo Montalbán playing an Indian Sikh in the Star Trek franchise even though he was Mexican at the time, and I suspect was up until his death in 2009, but no-one boo-fucking-hooed at that. Why is it okay for these guys to portray a different race? Because they're not white? Newsflash, assholes - you can be "racist" and not be white. If it's okay for non-whites to portray whites, then why the fuck is it not okay for the reverse? Think about how racist it is that you find it acceptable only if they actor/comedian is not of a Caucasian background!
Double standards. I think the term "reverse discrimination" is fucking abhorrent and an excuse to be a dick, and so I won't use it, especially when "discrimination" by itself is sufficient as a term, but we've got to stop being offended at everything. This is getting out of control. Man the fuck up. Sometimes it's just a joke. If you're offended by a fucking joke, then that's your problem, but stop crying about it. Switch over, watch something else, move the fuck on.
I abhor racism. I really do. But there is a difference between being racist and making a joke, and I think the "minorities" (weird term to describe non-whites, but there it is) realise this; whenever you see people getting riled up about jokes that concerned "minorities", it's never the actual "minorities" who are being offended.
It's white people. Oh, I know being offended allows us to better be experts on the cultures of others, in our own minds, but please would you just fucking chill out? It's starting to get embarrassing.
PS: As an aside, "African-American" is a not a term I will use to describe a black American person. I think "American" does the job just fine, especially since the actual black Americans I know have never even set foot in Africa.
