thursday. my concert is thursday.
grades 1, 2 and 3 are going in the morning...9:30-10:30.
the orchestra and grades 4 and 5 are going in the afternoon...1:00-2:00.
im nervous. mainly for the orchestra. they sound...terrible. not "ok theyre beginners we can forgive them" terrible...actually terrible. i had to switch a piece last minute (last week!) and theyve barely gotten through it. theyre only playing 3 pieces (i was told they needed to play 4-5 pieces) and only 1 of them is ready to go and my one boss wasnt even happy with it. i think im in big trouble.
i hope they get their act together! rehearsal today was AWFUL. too much talking, too much messing around, not enough playing. and just...BAD. and it SUCKS for the kids that are doing great! i wish i could just kick out all the ones who have no clue what theyre doing and focus on the ones who actually get it. sigh im almost embarrassed to put them up there. but what am i going to do? i cant push back the concert now...its too late.
i couldnt have given them simpler music either. it doesnt exist! this is as easy as it comes, besides playing in unison. i might text their teacher from last year and see what they performed because i have a feeling it wasnt in parts...or at least not 5 parts.
im going to have an ulcer by the end of this week.
even if we dont end up moving on friday, i might call out anyway. i just need a break!
the worst part of today (besides that fucking rehearsal) was trying to get the kids on the risers and go through some music. we were supposed to hear 1 song and make sure all the kids fit. out of no where, my principal wanted to hear the 5th grade sing all of their music. shes not happy with one of my choices (which i knew she wouldnt be) but whatever. its a nice song and i took a chance. i dont think anyone is going to be offended. most of the school goes to some sort of church and the song is a happy song about keeping away the devil. the school is mainly jamaican immigrants and the song is adapted from a jamaican folk song. it just makes no sense. ANYWAY!
my principal makes everything much harder than it has to be and she likes to interrupt people. it drives me NUTS. can i get my sentence out please? she had this whole thing of which staircase the students had to go up and down and then changed it for the orchestra...just annoying! why dont we keep it consistent for the kids? nope! back staircase is closer to my room, so we need to use that. its not much closer...maybe a couple of feet. not a big deal. whatever. i just cant right now.
im going to have to miss my class tomorrow too to set up decorations. oh well!
alright i need to figure out dinner and start folding laundry. later!
