First on Sunday and then last night I had the good luck to be present to hear five women share their strength and hope in AA Meetings.
Sunday the first speaker outlined her remarkable tale of addiction and dissolution and then how she bottomed and gradually recovered into a worthwhile and contributory member of society. She was very impressive and was inspirational in her presentation. As she ended her talk she told us of her good news in that come September she will be getting married to the love of her life. As the applause died down she then introduced the next woman to speak and who will become her partner. The entire room rose to their feet with tumultuous applause.
Last night's meeting began with very young Mother of a year and a half baby girl and due to give birth to a boy in 2 months. The pressures of peer and youth are so overwhelming but she managed to grab onto recovery.
The next speaker was another woman who outlined her story. She had been an ultra controlling woman who drank to hide her less than perfect life. She was active for over 20 years and is now recovered for thee same amount of time. Her emotional nature was her real enemy and drinking her problem solver.
The third and final speaker was an elderly grandmotherly Lady who told us of her hidden drinking unsuspected at her home and eventual entry into AA 42 years ago. She was bright eyed and a compelling speaker as she detailed the problems of recovery in the early days of AA.
She concluded her talk with introducing the other two as her daughter with 20 years and her granddaughter with 5 1/2 years.
Yes, this disease is a Family Disease and all five of these woman astonished me with their recovery stories.
