It was a light gray mist as I approached the bridge leading into my town but as I got to the far side of the bridge the mist became a solid still air. I made my left turn moistly from habit than any real awareness of my location. Habit tells me that my block is exactly one mile from the turn and sure enough I was able to find the turn into my street and slowly drive to my house. The second pothole allowed me to know I was home so I parked. This was one deep fog. When I left for work this am it was even deeper and darker. When I reached the Ocean Avenue and made my turn right I was aware that I had one mile to go before I reached the bridge and made the turn. Some load soul on the river itself whined his plight with a fog horn. That somehow seemed so fitting. Making my turn to go inland I received another surprise in that the fog did not abate as expected but stayed impenetrable. This is not the normal effect but today it is what it is. A ride that usually takes 15 minutes today took 40 minutes. I exercised extreme caution especially at intersections. Tail and brake lights of other vehicles were just pale colors glowing. WhenI arrived here I allowed myself one huge sigh of relief.
