Well, since I'm over on Youtube I figured "fuck it - I might as well post some of my favorite video-game OSTs". And that's exactly what I'm going to do.
Goldeneye - The Facility
(This is looped for half an hour, close it when you get bored)Jesus, the memories. I really love all of Graeme Norgate's Goldeneye tracks, because he managed to make the game feel like a Bond movie. I really wish I still had an N64, I'd play this fucking game all day long.
Doom 2 - Shawn's Got The Shotgun (Map 7, 19, 29)
When you first hit up Map 7 on Doom 2, and you hit that fuckin' switch, and (if you're playing it on a proper difficulty, like Ultraviolence) you see those fuckin' Mancubus assholes lobbing fireballs like crazy bastards, and you frantically run around the perimeter frantically looking for an out, and you hit a switch and the walls disappear and hundreds of giant robot spiders come out of nowhere, spamming plasma rounds at you, and this tune is playing in the background... you'll understand.
The track spawned a ton of heavy-metal remixes, the following of which is my favourite:
Whilst I'm on the subject of Doom 2, this:
and this:
get honourable mentions.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
It's really difficult for me to not post every track on the HR soundtrack, they're all that good. So I'll just post a few of my favorites. I don't think I need to go into detail here; the tracks speak for themselves.
Fallout 3 - Battle 1
Say what you want about F3, and the internet is full of opinionated assholes who will do just that, you can't deny that the soundtrack was simply (to use an overplayed word) epic. Of all the tracks Inon Zur orchestrated for this game, this is hands down my favorite.
Inon Zur then went on to compose the OST to another of my favorite RPGs:
Dragon Age: Origins
Mass Effect
The first Mass Effect game was and remains one of the best sci-fi RPGs I have ever played. I guess the only other games that come close to the scale and scope of Mass Effect, to my eye, is the Knights of the Old Republic games - also published by BioWare.
Damn, I really did love KotOR 2. Might have to re-install that shiznit.
Can I get away with one more? I can get away with one more. Since Borderlands 2 is about to hit the Vita in the UK (and, by all accounts, it's a good port) I might as well add some Borderlands-style insanity.
Borderlands
Okay, not strictly speaking "game music", but since it was in the original Borderlands, FUCK YOU AND LISTEN TO IT.
Fun fact: I really dislike Cage The Elephant. This song, however, rules, so shut up.
The very first song to play when you get into the game. I love this fuckin' song, and I'm glad they did a version for the sequel. Shall I play that? Fuck it, yes I shall.
That's all, folks. Hope you enjoyed this entry. If not, GTFO.
