It’s not even 8:30pm and both of my children are fast asleep in their beds, my house is picked up, all the dishes are clean, and I’m binging another season of Hell’s Kitchen on Hulu. My evening is going well :)
Some updates since it’s been awhile…
1. The end of the school year was a bit hectic, but overall good. Waiting to see if one of my team members will be able to be in room 201 (my old room) because we cleaned out the closet and stocked it with our new instruments (so many drums!) but we’ll see.
- I did get clarification about summer camp and did not back out. Training started today and camp starts next Tuesday. I am teaching 8:30am-12:30pm. I just got an email TODAY that Freddie was placed at my school (I already knew this because I asked in the office and I double checked my application status on the website…but really? Parents are just getting these emails now and camp starts Tuesday?!) I’m not exactly sure what his schedule is. So basically there is two parts: school from 8:30-12:30 and camp (with the after school couselors) from 12:30-3 or 6 depending on if you signed up for the extended day (I think?) I’m going to try to get some clarification tomorrow.
As far as what I’m teaching, I’m also not 100% sure. A few weeks ago, my principal told me I wouldn’t be teaching music, but was open to me adding music and movement activities into the day. Earlier this week, I got an email saying I was teaching kindergarten. This morning, I was there early (parking is atrocious, especially now that people think school is out), and she pulled me into her office first thing. Basically, the DOE head office told parents they can register whenever and can even come and drop off kids on Tuesday without registering and we’ll take care of it that day (?!?!?!?! fucking DOE) so she’s not sure how many students will be in each class (and I think we’re still supposed to be keeping students 3 feet apart). So this morning, she told me she opened up my schedule and the PE teachers schedule so we could push-in to the classrooms for half hour lessons. I would be teaching each class kindergarten-8th grade 2Xs a week. But she also said it could all change because they were still getting registrations. Had our awkward ice breaker meeting with all the staff (some are not teachers from our school) and then was told to go work on curriculum with the k-2 team. Get pulled out to help move boxes and then asked to go back to work on curriculum because I would be teaching first grade, but still plan to teach music. My principal looked so stressed. This is so unfair of the DOE to do this to teachers and administrators over the summer. This whole thing is a shit show. There needed to be a hard deadline and a better roll out of this program. I’m not worried about teaching. I can be flexible and I can learn what I need to be going over with my students. It’s not ok of the DOE to roll out this program without thinking about how it’ll actually work and then have it left up to the schools to take care of it. Just unacceptable, but that’s the industry I’m in I guess.

My grandmother isn’t doing well. A couple of months ago, she went into the hospital for hernia surgery. 80% of her stomach was through the hernia. She went into the hospital again this week because of fluid in her lungs. They got most of it out and sent her home. I spoke to her on the phone today and she doesn’t look or sound well at all. She said another doctor took her off some medication that helps with fluid retention. I’m not exactly sure, but two hospital visits close together for a woman in her 80’s is never good. I’m hoping she’s ok for awhile, but I’m worried for her.

The kids are pretty good. My daycare provider very graciously took Freddie three days this week. He peed his pants on Monday because he refused to go to the bathroom, but he was good otherwise. Today she said he had a lot of energy. I told him he needs to calm down and be respectful of Karen and her daycare. He can’t be scaring the kids and being too loud. He was good during nap time though (I sent his tablet for nap time since he doesn’t take a nap unless he fall asleep in the car). Hoping he’s well behaved tomorrow. Vivi has been picking on Freddie a little though. Getting in his space, taking whatever he’s playing with, pushing or kicking him…sigh gotta love the sibling bonding! They were so tired today though. Both kids had a bit of a runny nose when I picked them up and they were a little cranky. They ended up both crying over nothing around 7pm. Freddie tried to read me a book and Vivi crumpled up some sticker thing and he started bawling, so it was time for bed. Not even a fight! Both went to bed no issue. I had to rock Vivi, but she was asleep by 8pm, so I can’t complain.

Keep Dann in your thoughts. There is a manager position opening up at his funeral home. Interviews are next Thursday. The hours are 7am-3:30pm Sunday-Thursday. Better because he would still be home one day on the weekend and he’d be home earlier to help with the kids at night. The one thing that would be difficult is the 7am start time. Daycare doesn’t open until 7am and he can’t drop her off and be at work at the same time. So either we have to ask if she’d be able to take her earlier (and we’d probably offer her extra money) or we’d have to see if Annell could take her from 6:30-7am, then drop her off at daycare for us or we’d have to find another daycare either closer to his work or closer to mine. But I really hope he gets this job. If he gets it, he might be able to get the hours pushed back a little. We’ll see. This job would mean better hours, salary instead of hourly work, and a raise. Overall, just better for us. Fingers crossed please!

Busy weekend coming up. Saturday is Dann’s birthday (I almost forgot and he’s not going to let me forget it lol) and we’re going to visit with my sister and her husband in the city. I have to decide if I’m going to drive or brave the train with 2 kids. I’m leaning towards driving, but I need to look up some parking garages first. They can be extremely expensive in Manhattan so I’m not looking forward to that, but I’m excited to see my sister and BIL. We’re going to the highline on the west side and I think the new floating park. Should be a fun time! Sunday, we’re headed out to Long Island to visit with some old friends to bbq and swim in their pool and watch the fireworks. I’m really excited to see them. I haven’t met his wife and they’re having a baby in a couple of weeks! It’ll be nice to hang out with friends. I’m also so happy that Dann’s friends are finally all getting married and having babies. We’ve been the only ones for awhile, so it’s great having more friends with kids.
Alright, that’s all I can think of for now. Later!
