Apocalypse sooner than we thought? in Daydreaming on the Porch

It’s freakishly hot in the Northwest. All-time high temperature records are being annihilated. 116 degrees in Portland. 121 in central British Columbia. Reservoirs behind dams in the West are drying up. Wildfires could be worse then last year’s. Power generation is threatened. Agriculture in California and other Western states could be decimated from lack of water. Forty percent of the nation’s fruits and vegetables come from that state.

Our deeply flawed way of life is being exposed as never before. Greed, waste, materialism. It seems like global warming and climate change are starting to finally smack us out of our passivity as every day now we see dire forewarnings of what’s to come. It all makes me yearn to escape. But to where?

Come to Scotland - we’re still thriving over here in lovely cool temps! :)

Oswego Marg ⋅ July 01, 2021

Oh, I’d love to, but isn’t it overcast much of the time?

Marg Oswego ⋅ July 04, 2021

Sometimes - not always though! And that can depend if you’re nearer the coast or not :)

Any crisis involving money has a way of ultimately being worked out.

But that doesn't make things any better until it's worked out.

That’s a thought. When it comes down to the economy or stock market imploding due to all the negative consequences of climate change, there will, finally, be some drastic measures, if it isn’t already too late.

Finland. That's where I want to go, but I would also love long, cold nights for much of the year. A dear friend of mine lives in Spokane. It has been brutal, and they've been doing rolling blackouts to prevent a catastrophic outage.

Finland sounds like the perfect getaway from everything! As long as you don’t live up near the Arctic Circle! 🥺. Laplanders would probably not like all the climate refugees, but who knows, it could get balmy there and too hot for them! 🧐

We had 14 days of rain and now we have had two days of sun. The temperatures were warm on the rainy days ; it was like a steam bath. The last two days the temps have been in the low 70’s , falling into the low 60’s at night. It’s perfect ! I could have done without all that rain though.

Jinn July 03, 2021

And even though the weather is so crazy, people here deny adamantly that there is climate change . They disregard everything and say no one could ever predict the weather. 🤦‍♀️

Oswego Jinn ⋅ July 03, 2021

This is unbelievable, but it’s in large part due to massive ignorance about the dire nature of climate change. Also, a lack if intelligence and education.

Jinn Oswego ⋅ July 03, 2021

I think it’s mass denial / delusion. If they deny climate change exists then they do not have to accept our current reality . They think it will eventually just go back to how it was 20 years ago. Dream on, stupid people!

Oswego Jinn ⋅ July 03, 2021

Denial = Stupidity = lower human evolution. ie., easily deluded. Sad sad
