dann and i were supposed to move yesterday into our new apartment. unfortunately, that did not happen.

wednesday NYC had a HUGE rainstorm the entire day. the area we were going to move into is right near the water, called howard beach. everything in howard beach got flooded. EVERYTHING. apparently, (this is the rumor anyway), the mayor shut off the new sewer system that was supposed to help drain large amounts of water. the system was put in place after hurricane sandy. so yeah...everything was flooded and the realtor needs to remodel the entire apartment. needless to say, i was devastated on thursday!

please dont send any comments about this being a blessing in disguise, that if i had already moved in all my stuff would have been gone, blah blah blah. ive heard it all. i get it. im over it. thanks!

i have already found a new and much better apartment. thats the beauty about NYC realty...there is ALWAYS another apartment! i looked at it today and am in LOVE with it! everything in the apartment is BRAND NEW! they gutted the whole place and replaced everything, including the floors!! it still smelled of fresh paint and poly on the floors. the floors were so shiny! beautiful, bright hardwood. the apartment should be ready next friday. the appliances are coming this upcoming week. the bathroom and the kitchen were still under construction, but it will be done before we are ready to move on may 16th. gotta get some more paperwork together, going to the realtors office tomorrow to pay for the application and we are good to go!

it worked out a little better i think. this apartment is newer, slightly bigger, same price, in a nice area and closer to the train for dann. also, LOTS OF CLOSETS! (this is a huge plus in NYC...apartments NEVER have enough closet space!) there is also an option to pay for the basement parking garage. im debating if i really need it. there is street parking, but you never know in NYC! luckily, we are across the street from a school, so it might work out that i can park there. im usually home after 4pm and leave before 7 (there is no parking around schools between 7am-4pm when schools are in session) so it might work out well for me. its an extra $135/month for the parking space. we'll see.

wish us luck!
