I came across Formulate while following Shanae Grimes-Beech. She was so open about her love for her completely personalized shampoo and conditioner. Normally I’m not one to rush out and buy something a celebrity is endorsing. But she’s one of my favorite bloggers and she’s always real and gives the full scoop. So I decided to check out the website. I didn’t buy anything right away but I looked and filled out a hair profile. I then forgot about it for a while.
Then I received an email inviting me to become a partner with Formulate. I would receive discounts and rewards. I figured I could try the product and see where it goes. I can always decline and cancel down the road if I don’t believe in the product.
But from the beginning stages I was hooked without even trying the product. When I buy a generic bottle of shampoo and conditioner from the store, there is nothing about that bottle that is for me specifically. My red hair isn’t the same as my sister’s red hair. My wavy hair isn’t the same as my friends wavy hair. My longish hair isn’t the same as another girl’s long hair. I have red hair, it’s longish, it’s not straight but not curly. It’s frizzy some days and oily other days. I get split ends like crazy. I live in New Jersey so the weather and humidity are unpredictable so that affects my hair. I have scent preferences that I can’t find in stores. So all these things are factors I want for MY hair. But someone else may have completely different needs.
This is why Formulate intrigued me. I filled out an in-depth form about my shampoo and conditioner needs. My Top Five things I wanted were: Anti-Frizz, Glossy Hair, Prevent Split Ends, Straighten and Lengthen. My profile is Red Hair, medium thickness, oily & dry, wavy, long and I don’t have a sensitive scalp. I chose the scent Shoreline which is crisp and clean. Lavender, Jasmine, warm amber and cedar. And I just received my bottles today and it smells as beautiful as the description sounds. You can even choose how strong a scent you want. The form also uses your zip code to determine the weather in your area since they take that into consideration when designing your hair care. Allergies and beliefs about vegan, etc are also taken into account.
Once you fill out the form, you are assigned a personal chemist and a formulation technician. They will personally work with you to design your shampoo and conditioner. The App will show you all the information, all the ingredients, and give you the 411 for YOUR shampoo and conditioner. These are designed for you and your needs. It doesn’t get more personal than that.
And I receive emails to check in and make sure I am good with everything before it is shipped. The company really cares about the customers. I like that in a product. I wrote this as soon as I received my Formulate box. Tonight I will be taking a shower to try my new Shampoo and Conditioner. I will continue this blog once I see what happens. I’m looking forward to it. I hope it works as good as it smells.
Last night I tried my personalized Shampoo and Conditioner for the first time. The shampoo did not suds up right away like typical shampoo and the conditioner did not have that smooth, almost greasy texture typical conditioners have. And when I rinsed it out my hair felt different than it usually does after I wash it. It wasn’t different in a bad way. It just had a slightly oily texture when wet. But as it dries my hair looked like it usually does after a washing. Apparently the oily feeling is normal for the first few uses since my hair is used to traditional retail products.
I’m loving the way my hair looks after using this shampoo and conditioner from Formulate. I notice the difference more today since I washed my hair last night. Now that it has air dryer and I have absolutely no other products in it, it looks healthy and it here is definitely less frizz than usual when I air dry my hair. Normally my hair is a wavy, frizzy disaster without some kind of cream or a trip through the flat iron. I will update more as I use the shampoo and conditioner more.

Trust me. I was iffy about it in the beginning too. But I’m glad I made the leap to try a new product. I’m pretty low maintenance but my hair is the one accessory I make an effort with these days. I feel comfortable promoting Formulate because I know it’s different from anything else on the market. And it’s made for ME. Who can argue with that?
