I am a baby boomer, which means, I am really close to retirement. Had I planned better I would have already retired but alas at 21, 65 was a long way off and I had plenty of time. Flash forward to 62 and I don’t have too much time left. I paid as much attention to retirement as I did my health. I mean at 21 I was invincible. Not so much these days.
Growing up I knew hardships. I also knew that if you touched a hot stove it would burn me. I grew up with guns and knew not to point one at anything I didn’t intend to kill. I watched Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Daffy Duck, and the Road Runner. I was smart enough to know the coyote couldn’t build a trap for the Road Runner let alone survive being blown up by TNT.
My son-in-law told me something the other day I found interesting. “Millenials are terrible parents.” I didn’t need a disclaimer to warn me not to do dangerous things. Today we have to have in big letters, “Contents may be hot and cause severe burns” on a cup of coffee.
Just this weekend a guy has a bad day and goes on a killing spree. If I did that when I had a bad day, I would have been gone a long time ago. People do not want to be responsible for their actions. Like the cartoon, some of the nut jobs think, hey I can shoot Daffy Duck in the face and all it will do is turn his bill sideways.
We have failed to educate a generation. I fear to think what my great grandchildren will be like.
